I think it would be a backward step in trying to sign Mau, Edwards or Will Smith. To be honest I wouldn’t even entertain the idea of getting back Semi if it meant losing our halves or Penisini.

I think we obviously chased some backrowers and missed out which is why we are now upping our offer for Matterson. I reckon he may end up staying. Ever since I resurrected him from that notorious list during Orthodox Easter his career has blossomed.

I think Nathan Brown is still nursing some injuries and may be released. I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves prior to season 2023 despite being under contract.

I personally wouldn’t be against signing any of the 3 if it’s on min wage.

I see. So what do the board do other than eat those little triangle sandwiches?
Gronk I know I’m late to the party on this, but you reminded me of a funny story.
My dear old departed dad was asked to be on the board of the sydney market authority representing the stall holders. So he went to the first board meeting where there were various captains of industry, an ex premier of NSW and other “Toffs”. Now my old man was a Ukrainian immigrant. never went to school, couldn’t read or write and I wondered how he would get on.
So I rang him that night and asked how it went. He said, “son, they were a pack of f**king dickheads and I’m never going back, but the triangle sandwiches were really good!” 😂😂

Does anyone know what our priorities are with recruiting. We have seemed very quiet.
I'd be happy just to extend Moses,Penisini and Brown. Atleast our spine stays strong and just hope Hodgson stays fit.

I'm not sure where that line of thought comes from...

He averaged more tackles per game in 2020, and 2021, than he does in 2022.

His offloads, and tackle breaks, per game, have been relatively consistent.

He created more linebreaks for teammates in 2020, and 2021, than he has in 2022.

He's been playing at a consistently good level for years.

Just leaving this here, to try to dispel this myth that Matterson has only recently found form. Courtesy of https://www.nrlsupercoachstats.com/index.php?player=Matterson, Ryan.

It seems that is the club's thinking too. Rightly or wrongly. Well, they don't have much choice now, do they?

I have been told a few times of late that those 3 are exactly the priority. As I posted the other day, with our 1, 8 & 10 locked up for a few years, the focus is on getting Drown, Moses and Penisini extended. In fact, the club have pretty high wraps on Penisini being one of the players we can build a successful team around (and I think it has to do with more than just his football ability).

Well I think you’re missing my point that successful recruitment/retention isn’t just about the players you sign, but as much about the players you don’t sign. No club ever found themselves disadvantaged by not signing a player. The cap space can always be used elsewhere. But once that money is committed to a player it is easy for it to become a liability, and under the salary cap actually very hard to remediate.

What a nonsense and ridiculous each way bet politician's statement this is. You have out done yourself poo.

If I ever want to say nothing but say plenty, I will make sure I ask you for advice. You seem to have perfected the art.

He seems a smart, well spoken hard working humble kid. It’s Scary to think how good he’ll be in 3 or 4 years time. Hopefully he’s still here in an Eels jersey.

I have no problem signing one of Edwards or Mau (probably Edwards coz he's more versatile), as #20 in the depth chart. We could probably get them at a salary that is good value for a player outside the top 17. I wouldn't sign both of them. Smith for the rest of this year is worth thinking about.....depends what other options are out there though.

But our players have chosen not to do that, this is the difference between success and mediocrity
Some have chosen that, just as some Penrith players have chosen to chase money elsewhere. The good ones leaving seem to be from outside the area. Burton is from the country, Capewell is a Queenslander and Kikau is from Fiji. Obviously Yeo and JFH are two high profile players from outside Penrith but maybe these two are getting paid market rate. Every club has some of those. The top clubs have more players on unders than the weaker clubs.
