Rumours and Stuff

Some have chosen that, just as some Penrith players have chosen to chase money elsewhere. The good ones leaving seem to be from outside the area. Burton is from the country, Capewell is a Queenslander and Kikau is from Fiji. Obviously Yeo and JFH are two high profile players from outside Penrith but maybe these two are getting paid market rate. Every club has some of those. The top clubs have more players on unders than the weaker clubs.
RCG, Cartwright and Blake are from the area but no longer there. I think the local juniors being retained is more to do with them being the players they want to keep at this time rather than being local juniors (as our 3 ex Penrith boys can attest to). Why would they have any reason to let go of Crichton, Luai and To’o? You could easily find reasons for the others (Burton wanted to play five eighth, Capewell not high priority signing at that price, couldn’t afford Kikau at that price.

And silly me thought you wouldn’t have a comeback for this one🤷🏼‍♂️

What a nonsense and ridiculous each way bet politician's statement this is. You have out done yourself poo.

If I ever want to say nothing but say plenty, I will make sure I ask you for advice. You seem to have perfected the art.
It just seems that way because you don't understand risk. If you think every player you sign is a win and every player you don't sign is a loss, then of course you'll think the only people that matter are the recruitment team. And you'd be wrong.

What I have been trying to explain to you for years is that losing a player (whether a new signing or a retention) is, in nearly every case, better than keeping him by overpaying. The dopes who are hypercritical of the club disagree. And you are wrong.

The people who put the brakes on our recruitment/retention team signing/re-signing desired players (whatever the cost) would be the board. So as you can see it's not an each way bet at all. It looks that way because you don't understand risk.

Mate, this is three examples of the shittest logic I've ever f**king seen. The local kids they let go were obviously chasing the money. Some of the ones they kept may also be on market rate (but were deemed essential) but the fact they are so strong means they have minimised the number of overpaid players in their squad while maximising the number who are underpaid. Weak clubs like the Bulldogs are currently in the opposite situation.

Mate, you’re literally agreeing with me whilst simultaneously saying it’s the shittest logic you’ve ever seen.

I'm not agreeing with you when you imply the local juniors thing is irrelevant. It would be a big part of how they keep so many players on unders. The fact they are so far geographically from most other NRL clubs would also be a factor. And the fact that local juniors have left Penrith doesn't disprove this. It's not about keeping every player, it's about keeping enough that you have an advantage under the salary cap.

Didn't say I would be turfing any of our better players for him, but there are quite a few mouth breathers that we could get rid off that may allow us to have a decent go at him.
But where would he play then? You can only have 13 players on field

And all this because of the original claim that the board had 'made very tough decisions' by letting the recruitment team do their job by not paying overs for some of our players, and yet somehow we're supposed to believe that the board deserve significant credit for this. All without the slightest evidence. But somehow this proves that they'd have the stones to remove BA, as if letting players go, which is a routine occurrence, and firing a coach are somehow on par.

Centre...and I would offload Sivo, Simonsson, Opacic, Perham, Dunster, Loisou, Naiduki and Cini to make it happen if it is what it would take to do it. None of those players will be as good as the ones I have in my backline below. Sivo is unknown coming back from injury, Is slow and will probably only be worth having for another couple of years at best. Simonsson is a good winger, but will never be anything more then a solid 1st grader and Opacic is a very good defensive centre but offers very little from an attacking perspective. As for the other 5 I don't think any of them will be anything special overall.

The backline I have chosen is is dynamic powerful, fast and has X factor written all over it. If we did need to get rid of a few of the guys I listed above to make it happen I think it would be well worth it and we could fill the vacant spots with new hopefuls at absolute minimum wage. Sure some of the guys I have in the list to go are probably on minimum wage already, so cool, we keep them if we think they can do a job if injuries demand it. But in an ideal world I would keep Simonsson and Opacic for cover if we can. The rest can all go. Sometimes you just need to be ruthless to rejig your roster to get the top players to your club. Next year seems likely to be a mini rebuild year anyway, so it is the perfect time to clear the decks and bring in a player that has Jarryd Hayne X factor written all over him.

My backline would be -

Gutho
Blake
Penisini
Pryce
Russell
Brown
Moses

and hope and prey we have minimum injuries.

Who's pryce?

Do you mean Bryce???

I'd have a hard time dropping Bailey based on current form

I have no problem signing one of Edwards or Mau (probably Edwards coz he's more versatile), as #20 in the depth chart. We could probably get them at a salary that is good value for a player outside the top 17. I wouldn't sign both of them. Smith for the rest of this year is worth thinking about.....depends what other options are out there though.

it’s mind blowing to think what options we have if one of drown or Moses go down with injury. It’s gut wrenching actually.

True. But what about the other 15 teams and who they have.
Strong sides probably have worse back ups then the weak sides I would imagine. Not to many sides have great back ups in the halves. Burton last year was a very rare situation.
