I’m not saying he’ll be the best 9 in the game. I just don’t think we’re utilizing him like we should.

Most of the things that happen on the field are the result of player decisions. The coach isn’t up in the stands telling them when to run or pass, or which side to go and so on. He can give them their priorities (e.g. set up right and shift left, or aim to play the ball between the posts on tackle five) but he can’t be telling merkins never do this or always do that because it hurts their ability to react to the game situation. This is why experience and decision making are valuable attributes in players.

Yeah. Probably. Given hes had Johns, Ennis and Woolford to work with his running game although minimal has become non existent. And as for engaging the markers, forget it. Harry Grant would be no faster than Rheed but hes a Thoroughbred V Clydesdale between the ears compared to Rheed. Ill still be interested to see how he plays at The Dogs cause Im not totally excusing BA. I think BAs mantra is just get the ball to the halfs. All that said I dont think Gutho helps him much either.

I think he’s just told to pass and not encourage to engage the markers.

Wayne Bennett did it all time with broncos players. After origin with the bye he told them to go away for the week and if anyone was in Brisbane they would be forced to train.

I just think Reed is playing his game. He will have better seasons then this one and potentially worse. He may even have a few better seasons that last year. But he also may not.

I've seen heaps of players do this. Only special players have consistently top level seasons year after year. Most but seem to have a few peak years some solid years and a few bad ones.

Look at Gutherson. His current forms terrible. Lanes the opposite. Playing great. I can't see this having anything to do with the coach at all.

Yes he did. In under 20s where defense is slow and 90% of players never make it to the NRL. Massive difference at NRL level. Defenses are tighter and line speed would be twice as quick. Every player in general is faster and stronger. There is less space.
Rheed also has packed on weight to help survive which of slowed him down a little as well.Throw all of this in and a great run game in 20s doesn't mean it will survive in the NRL

I agree re 20’s and first grade. I’m just not ready to write him off or call him average.

Ben Hunt was one of the best under 20’s players I’ve seen. Right up there with Tim Smith. He had it all and still does. I now consider him elite. Tim Smith was a wasted talent. Still has the record for most try assists in an NRL season (40).
