You talking about the FRENCH national Roman Polanski "hiding" in a country who would never extradite one of their own to the USA *spits on their grave* or the lesser known Fijian Roman Polanski who's hoping to film a movie in France?
so what?

if Polanski was Australian and lived here we'd be sending the pedo to the USA if they wanted him extradited

So Matty you're saying DV is different than assault? That's what the arrest warrant would say, assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Certainly in QLD you can be charged with both Domestic Violence (breach of an Order that is already in place) AND assault, even if the act of assault is what makes up the breach of DV. I'm sure it'll be the same in NSW.

To my understanding he's charged with charged with "one count of domestic violence-related assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of domestic violence-related common assault." GBH is a far more serious charge.

I'm not downplaying what he's charged with, but it wouldn't be enough to get an interstate extradition warrant, let alone an international one.

The site mentions a cross border initiative between NSW and ACT with warrants dating back some time. It's not a regular occurrence. The one example given of extradition between QLD and NSW is for Conspiracy to murder which is a completely different kettle of fish. They're not going to extradite someone on Domestic and assault charges that are on the lower end of the scale.

i know someone who was extradited from NSW to Queensland for stealing $3000 from an atm when they used their key card over the period of a few days

Sounds pretty harsh and I'd be willing to bet there's more to it than that. I know plenty of people who haven't been extradited on far more serious stuff.

The charges he is on wouldn't even be grounds for an interstate extradition warrant let alone flying him from Fiji, France or wherever. If he's signed with Toulon, so be it. It's not ideal but in BA we trust.

Interstate extradition isn't dependent on charges. If you have an arrest warrant within Australia and are arrested interstate then a local magistrate will decide where the case is heard. Most of the time that will be in the area of the alleged crime. Mostly because it's cheaper to ship you to the hearing than bring the hearing to you. Although subsequent crimes may mean they'll just hear the case there

You do realise France and Australia are separate countries governed by separate legal systems?
