Parramatta Has Snared Themselves Another Very, Very Good Player
Tags: Parramatta Eels

Eels fans may be licking their wounds with all the Semi Radradra dramas but that could be done and dusted as they look to have found a new star.

Tui Afualo is only 17 and the Australian Schoolboys centre has made a massive impression because he’s just re-signed with Parramatta until 2019.

He also represented NSW in their Under-16s and 18s sides.

In 2016, Afualo played six Holden Cup games, scoring two tries and four line breaks.

Bulldogs breach NRL salary cap: report
By AAP

Canterbury are reportedly in breach of the NRL salary cap to the tune of about $100,000.

The Seven Network on Wednesday evening reported the Bulldogs, some months ago, had discovered that they were over the cap for 2017 and alerted the NRL.

Canterbury face a probable hefty fine over the breach.

The original figure is believed to have been up to $160,000.

Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle, however, has told Seven News she's confident it will be less than $100,000 by the time final numbers are crunched within a few weeks.

By self-reporting to the NRL, it is anticipated Canterbury will be fined an amount equivalent to the final breach amount, rather than being hit with a possible deduction of premiership points.

How do you "snare" a player when he's been at your club his entire playing career?

Really surely the dogs could fix their cap problem in the next few months if they are only $160k over. Why would you report it now, when they have time to get under ?

Didn't they also show some interest in Foran ?

Something doesn't seem right!!

Is this somehow related to pushing Hasler out ?

Doesn't make sense!!

Well...the fact that they haven't sent a team the 2017 team out onto the field probablymakes a difference as well. They'll also have to get below the cap before the season starts.

Well they haven't cheat yet really. You can't really cheat the cap until the year is over and you know how much you have spent.

It's the same way we got done for cheating.

Not really. In 2016, we played games with a team picked from a squad that was over the cap (and over by some margin). The Dogs haven't done so (yet).

When we first got busted in 2015, we were more than $400k over the various caps, and were playing teams drawn from that squad and only copped a fine and a suspended point penalty.

but were they over last year or why the need to self report if it doesn't matter right now seeing the season hasn't kicked off?

the report doesn't suggest they will be under the cap then either. they'll just be less over and cop a fine

Big deal....most clubs go over a little. Do not compare it to what we did.

I don't see how any team can be assessed as being over the cap for one or even several games. Had we been massively under the cap in the early part of the season and then picked up some expensive players mid-season, would we then be fielding a team 'over the cap'? (If the yearly spend was still under the cap)

My point, as you've pointed out before, was that at the point of assessment we had contracts for the year that would have put us over. Although as we did get under we got no advantage from that. No advantage over the year I mean, obviously in those early games we had an advantage.
