Where does it say that they were over the cap for 2016?

CANTERBURY are reportedly in breach of the NRL salary cap to the tune of about $100,000.

The Seven Network on Wednesday evening reported the Bulldogs, some months ago, had discovered that they were over the cap for 2016 and alerted the NRL. Canterbury face a probable hefty fine over the breach.

The original figure is believed to have been up to $160,000. Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle, however, has told Seven News she’s confident it will be less than $100,000 by the time final numbers are crunched within a few weeks.

By self-reporting to the NRL, it is anticipated Canterbury will be fined an amount equivalent to the final breach amount, rather than being hit with a possible deduction of premiership points.

“The Bulldogs hold the salary cap in the highest of regards and once we identified a potential breach position that we could not rectify for the 2016 season, we reported this to the NRL,” Castle said in a statement.

“The cap position will not be finalised until the NRL have completed their Salary Cap audit process across all 16 NRL Clubs”.

it's a variation on the punishment the storm copped the difference is they weren't given the chance to play for points
Yeah. I think it would've made more sense if we copped a set points deduction, rather than the amount of points we had earned before we got caught. Even playing for no points would've made more sense. But I'm pretty much ranted out on this issue.

It was a set number of points - they just let the investigation drag along until the right time to say you've lost all those points so far - and then they arent making it explicitly x points for future breaches

It's splitting hairs maybe but IMO allowing us to earn points when 'cap compliant' implies that you can't earn points when not compliant. So what about a team that gets caught later in the season but for a more minor offence?

And I agree, they did exactly as you suggest with the timing. Gave us a sliver of hope in order to get us to roll over and comply.

Yeah i agree ... greenburg still ended up digging himself a bit of a hole ... he makes shit up off the cuff and i think it comes back to bite him .... but then every case is different, so maybe it requires making up shit each time???

I dont have much time for greenburg. I think he's a typical talker without much substance .... but making it look like you know what you are doing is probably half the show i guess .... he's currently hiding behind john grants dead corpse - more quality leadership

I think that is what pissed the big green turd off the most ... that we tried to pretend all was sorted and didnt ever have any top manager say yep it was all me (which it probably wasnt all one merkin - just an ever evolving pile of shit that was hard to flush)

I don't really get the NRL's fixation with this matter. I get that Jnr hanging out with really bad merkins with (alleged guys, don't come to my house) organised crime links, but this Loverage dude is in the big house for a one punch assult. So unless he has a huge conviction sheet for other stuff, I say they should back off.

I get that remorse has been lacking and the Loverage family have not been sympathetic at all, plus tragedy has hit the Kelly family twice with their other son - but gee these one punch laws trouble me.

Kieran Loveridge turns down NRL chat over Andrew Fifita friendship

The NRL's protracted investigation into Andrew Fifita has met a hurdle after convicted killer Kieran Loveridge declined to be interviewed by league central.

The governing body has yet to decide whether to punish the Cronulla star for his public support of Loveridge during a number of NRL matches in 2016.

Sharks coach confirms Fifita investigation
Shane Flanagan has confirmed prop Andrew Fifita is being investigated over allegations he's been consorting with a convicted criminal.

Fifita has maintained his friendship with Loveridge since the latter was handed a minimum 10-year sentence for fatally punching Thomas Kelly in 2012.

In its attempt to speak to all relevant parties involved in the matter, the NRL integrity unit recently sought to talk with Loveridge but was knocked back.

"He declined to be interviewed and we cannot require him to do so. But our investigation will continue," an NRL spokesperson said.

The investigation into Fifita has been running for over three months since it was revealed that the Sharks prop had the initials 'FKL' on his wrist strapping in a number of games last season.

Despite the revelations, he starred in Cronulla's breakthrough premiership win and was controversially overlooked for the Clive Churchill medal and the Kangaroos' Four Nations tour.

WTF did the NRL merkins think was gonna happen? That he would dob in Fifita? .... just tell Fifita he's a f**king merkin and stop him from doing it (already done) and move on

what do they think is gonna come from it? ... they will find out he talks to the prick, deregister him, then have him sue them .... i think the world realises fifita is a twat, probably dont need to spell anything more out

It's pretty simple, don't punch people are suffer the severe consequences.

Millions of people manage to go out and have a good time without punching people.

These heroes think they're tough, wonder how tough they feel while being drilled with a 10 inch cock........

I know what the One Punch Laws (OPL) are about, but I worry about kids like my son who (albeit quite passive in nature) might find himself in a scuffle that ends up with a merkin hitting his head on the kerb.

I don't know what the "test" for a OPL charge is and it may very well require significant witnesses and zero provocation on the victims behalf, but it troubles me all the same. It would seem that "motive" or "intention" have been removed from a defendant's rights and these charges a knee jerk reaction by a politician trying to score claw in votes.

There are merkins doing time for OP attacks and I worry that their lives have been ruined because of a mix of youth, testosterone, booze and a random brain snap.

You are implying that we have been treated differently to others. If another club had a ratbag leak information to the NRL and then an idiot board deny it they would have had no choice but to deal with them as they dealt with Parra.

That makes two of us, Whiney.

Hang on, I think you meant to say "your statement that every club does it right". As it is written you are actually suggesting that I am not wrong.

...whoops. How many Krakens have you had this morning?

Some do it better than others.

11.30am is beer o' clock somewhere.
I could go a Kraken about now it's been of the them days.

You know what I meant, Kraken mangled English and all but your statement that all clubs do it was wrong. Newcastle and the Titans have been under NRL rule for years and have a look at their results?? Even playing field my arse.

But If you think it's an even playing field and all clubs are treated the same you might have been into the Powers instead???
