Your hate on Moses getting paid whatever (and it is a general NRL trait with saying player is being paid overs) is myopic. You can only really guess at contract signing if a player has signed for unders (guess because the player could still turn to shit), but guessing someone has signed for overs is either wildly inaccurate or more likely overstated. Can’t determine if someone is overpaid until they actually do the work. Case in point the Cows with Holmes, Townsend, probably even Dearden. A lot of people thought they paid overs for them, yet they smashed it last season so whether they are or aren’t definitely wasn’t determined when they signed.
But even if we take overs at signing as correct, it’s still a market factor. No one is signing Moses at $700k, even $1m is only going to be a foot in the door.
Certainly we don’t want to give him blank cheque, but we’ve definitely had players try it with us in recent years, yet we’ve resigned a lot of them. What’s the likelihood we’ve paid overs for a fair chunk of squad?
