Rumours and Stuff

Interesting they didn't force us to pick Loizou. I don't really see why we would've gotten away with it. Also who is player 29 now? I think it's more likely Lumelume is now on minimum salary in the top 30.
I haven't seen any reliable published sources citing dispensation for Lumelume - and can't really see the case for why we'd get it, or be treated differently about naming our #29 by the same deadline as other clubs..

I think you're right, Lumelume is/now locked in as #29, but on minimum salary (or close to it - $500 higher than other merkins who aren't in the top 30?).

I'd kill to have him as our hooker now.

We need to be carefull with our side. It could all get old at the same time with Guth,Jnr,Rcg,Lane,Matterson. Its ok right now. But come 2025 I'd be slightly concerned.
It's what i have been saying all along. This year, next year is our biggest chance with this pack.

So if Ja is our hb next year, we potentially have to wait another. 36 years

BA said in the captains run presser that we’ll need to apply for special dispensation due to injuries, didn’t didn’t mention who it was regarding

I'll be in my 70s. My Dads 80 this year. I always wanted to see us win a GF while he is alive. He doesn't look that good nowdays so I hope we win one soon.

I thought Rein upped the tempo when he came on. May as well have him on the bench and rest Hodgson 10 mins either side of half time instead of Maka doing nothing. He could also fill in for the halves or running forward in an emergency.

Here’s our 2025 team as it currently stands:

1. Gutherson (31)
2. Sivo (32)
3.
4. Penisini (23)
5. Dunster (26)
6. Brown (25)
7.
8. Campbell-Gillard (32)
9.
10. Paulo (32)
11. Lane (31)
12. Mataele (23)
13. Matterson (31)

Younger than the 2016 Sharks pack, and also with room for some youth in the top 17, either on the bench or starting, with the likes of Lane and Matterson coming off the bench.

Outliers can be a thing. Lebron and Djokovic are grandpas in their respective sports yet they’re still dominating. The fact remains that the older an athlete gets the less likely it is that their output is as strong.
Obviously, but on the other hand they will have more experience and probably better leadership. Assuming the reduced expectations of an older player are factored into his salary value, it means you can balance the rest of the squad with younger players.

And is 30 really that old? Kaufusi and Sims both played Origin at age 30 in recent years, plus a whole bunch of halves and hookers. Yes forwards are generally past their peak, but if their peak was high (as in the case of our older forwards) then they will still be at least solid first graders at 31 or 32. Plus they will have all this experience and leadership. It will be a good pack for integrating youngsters... Betham-Misa, Brazel and Muagatutia could become first graders, and there are some absolute stars in the SG Ball pack (though they shat themselves this weekend). And Mataele will still be here in 2025. He looks like he's almost ready for first grade.
