are you sure we are not paying any freight ? if we are it has plenty to do with us
‘Paying freight’ is a meaningless term used by the media to create drama. The player agrees a payout figure with his old club and agrees a new contract separately with his new club. There’s no rule that they have to add up to the value of the former contract. It would just usually be the case because the player wouldn’t want to be out of pocket. In many cases his new contract would be more (and the payout from the old club would be zero). In other cases he would take a pay cut to move, like if he was unhappy at the existing club and asked to leave.

Except... both clubs involved in the situation will be trying to get away with paying the minimum they can get away with (and the other club paying the maximum that can be squeezed).

Chances are in these situations - instead of all going through the player's manager and getting ripped off - the clubs get on the blower to each other to talk turkey, with the club with the greatest sense of urgency (to take up/get rid of the player) saying to the other club "what's it going to take" and negotiate to get the deal done in the timeframe they want it to happen.

How would people rate the halfbacks these days. And who are the halfbacks?
1. Cleary
2. Munster (is he a halfback?)
3. DCE
4. Is Moses 4?

Are halfbacks and 5-8s the same position now?
Have they been so for many years?

I’d say there’s about three general types of halves, with some players able to fit more than one type. The three general types are:

1. Classic halfback. Lots of passing and kicking. e.g. Townsend, Reynolds

2. Primary playmaker. Gets early ball when the defence is on the back foot. e.g. Munster, Drown

3. Supporting half. Generally stays on one side of the field, usually opposite the fullback. e.g. Luai, Moylan

So what slot does our down hill skier belong in?

The big issue is the failure of the recruitment committee or whatever it is, failing to sign an experienced prop and at worst a decent centre, given how obvious that need was after last season and the player losses. The requirement could not have been more obvious.

Does that fall on the HOF or perhaps on the committee that was designed to ensure a) no player was overpaid b) the salary cap threshold was never threatened.

He is a unique mix of two roles. He’s generally a supporting half, though this year is also attacking wide on the left sometimes (set plays?). Then on the last he also does nearly all of our kicking, like a traditional halfback. Unlike a traditional halfback he generally attacks out wide, where he can use his speed.
