So just think how excited I am that they are passing on a flyer like Averillo. Imagine the awesome wrecking ball/speedster that they have their eyes on getting. Can't wait for that announcement.
17 clubs haven't signed Averillo for next year. Obviously some don't need him, but if he is such a weapon maybe the others are in a bidding war for him? Personally I think Alamoti is more likely getting significant interest.

Yeah I was about to post something along these lines, lucky I read ahead FFS....

My take on BA's "extension" was that he had the right to exercise the extension given the teams performance from last year. I didn't get the impression the club were falling over themselves to lock him in after a few rounds of this season....
Right, in much the same way that achieving his KPIs wouldn't have forced him into taking the extra year, he might've waited this long to exercise the option because he wanted to see how the team was travelling with a view to negotiate a better offer if they were going well. They weren't so he took the option, much like a player who is injured or out of form might take a player option instead of going to market.

Actually I do like Guler. Also agree with your call on Parker or Alamoti. Parker is unfashionable but definitely an NRL quality centre, and Alamoti could be anything. Plenty more potential than Averillo.
I thought Alamoti V Our Eels was the pick of The Dogs on the day. Appeared to have desperation in his plays and I like that in a player.

I doubt that was a serious question.
Serious question to you, if Pou had suggested for example Emre Guler (or insert any player you don’t think is that good) as the best option, how would you have responded?
The criticism of coach, club, etc. isn’t what I take as a personal affront, it’s the assumed authority that people take in laying that criticism. I get everyone’s frustrated but some people have taken it beyond simple opinion and to belief they are the smartest people in the world and just try to bully their views across. And just because your opinion can never be proven wrong, doesn’t make you right. And if we did sign Blacker and he muddled around in NSW Cup, would your response be that you were wrong or that the club/BA f**ked up his development?

Then again I have been rethinking. This is rugba leeg so perhaps @TheRam is the best person to lead the club. He may not always be correct but a “f**k everyone else, I am correct” attitude is very prevalent among the upper echelons of league. A cultish mentality was levelled at Pou the other day, but Queensland Origin and Storms built dynasties off the back of cultish mentalities.

Yes that's right.

No Excuses!!!

I think Davey for 2024 is a way to get him much cheaper than if it was just for 2023.
I don’t think he moves the needle enough in either year to warrant expediting signing him though. If it’s for min wage it’s great but above that it’s locking up 2024 cap when we still have options open and circumstances to clarify in 2023. Things may be happening in tandem but you’d like to see something soon.

We have the following edge forwards contracted for 2024:

Davey
Doorey
Lane
Mataele
Matterson
Murchie

While we surely wouldn't have space for another big money edge forward, we at least have a few options already on the books. Doorey and Mataele will benefit from another pre-season, and Davey can always contribute in the middle.

neither of you is an optimist.

Pou is a robot.

Gronk is a defeatist.
Since our outdated constitution was changed I am definitely an optimist. That f**king document locked us into decades of mediocrity that continual coach sacking never fixed. Since then we have performed well on the field, which indicates we might be getting stronger as a club. I'm hopeful anyway. Four straight years of finals footy has happened once before since 1986 (actually six years: '97-'02) but that was obviously a flash in the pan. Hopefully this isn't more of the same. Putting it all on the coach is foolish though. Brian Smith was also in charge during '03-'05.

Serious question to you Pou. Let’s say for arguments sake we get the spoon this year. Should we sack BA on the back of that? Does it have to be that drastic to sack him or would simply missing the 8 initiate a boning?

Just curious to see how you would polish that turd. ✨ 💩 ✨

Signing any player above the minimum at any time reduces options. While some signings make sense at the risk of reducing options e.g. any of our core signings, others less so. Do you think the benefit of having Davey outweighs the opportunity cost? I’d say yes this year (less defined options) but probably marginally no (there are still lot of options available not just for edge/combo forwards) for next year (depending on salary). So is the benefit of having him this year worth the cost of having him next year? I doubt it unless he’s the magical panacea to our defence problems

Same. Is it a crime to be an optimist ?

There is being glass half full people. Some people are just far to happy and cheerfull it makes you a bit sick to be around. Everythings great. Oh its personaly growth.
But then you have the take charge men. Guys who see problems and rather than pretend its all fine and things will improve in time they start to find solutions. They may not be the happiest people around because they always strive to be better. Perfectionist perhaps.

When I do a job I don't pull my dick over how good it is. I see how I could of done it better even if its marginal and find the faults with it so next time it is improved.

We are talking an elite professional sport here. There is no room for error. 1 or 2 wrong decisions amd your behind the 8 ball.
Look at the grand final. BA brings in N.Brown who hasn't played NRL for months. Why not bring him back earlier.
Then the whole ahh lets just treat it like another game. See you at the ground. What a f**king dope. Any chance was lost right then. The whole idea of a team bus and grand final breakie is to let the players know THIS IS SPECIAL. THIS MAYBE YOUR ONLY SHOT AT A PREMIERSHIP.
It was game over before we took the field. The Panthers where HIGH all day processing the big game. Our guys where planning how long it will take to get to the ground.

That's when he had to be terminated
