Anthony Griffin won 58% of his games at Penrith. The fact is if your squad is strong enough it doesn't really matter who the coach is. Gould will be focused on building the squad rather than worrying about the coach.

You still need the coach to build the team culture it doesn't matter how good the players are if they don't all "fall into or Follow" the coaches plans you are not winning anything

That's crazy how they all missed the finals the game changed so much in a year?
2005 was a bizarre season let's be honest.

The 4 prelim finalists were Eels, Dragons, Tigers and Cowboys.

Roosters and Bulldogs had come off 4 to 5 years of dominance from 2000-2004 and then like bustards.

Melbourne were a strong side but didn't start to dominate until the season after when the salary cap and wrestle helped.

Knights were the wooden spooners but won like 6 straight to finish the year and were beating teams in the top 8.

I think they overachieved big time last season.
They were definitely a quality team last year; they had the second best points differential. This year it's only tenth best. What's changed? Last year they had 14 blokes play 20+ games. This year it was only 10, which is not a huge difference. Maybe the record warm winter has lengthened their recovery times this year.

I’d say every squad was weaker this season except for the Broncos.
Very good point. In that case it's a matter of how much weaker. It's fair to say the Panthers lost players of similar calibre to ours (Kikau/Koroisau vs Papali'i/Mahoney) but then we also lost Niukore and Kaufusi from our top 17.

I would say our only real significant losses were Mahoney, Niukore and Papali’i. Kafusi,Stone and Opacic were ok as backups but not overly missed. Hopgood and Cartwright were worthy replacements for Niukore and Papali’i although I don’t think we were able to adequately replace Mahoney.

And we definitely didn't replace Opacic's defensive capability in the backline either.

Relax Parra fans, the greatest flop this year is Souths missing the finals not Parra. That flog Latrell and his side kick Cody have taken all the heat off Parra.
I reckon if Penrith don’t run away with the premiership, that’ll be the real greatest flop
