The Newcastle Knights has been made aware the NRL has provisionally suspended Jarrod Mullen under the NRL's Anti-Doping Policy.

The Provisional Suspension Notice asserts that Mullen returned a positive A-sample for an anabolic steroid, Drostanolone which is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the NRL's Anti-Doping Policy.

He was tested by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) on November 29, 2016.

Mullen is prohibited from participating in any WADA compliant sport, including Rugby League, while the provisional suspension is in place.

Under the Anti-Doping Policy, Mullen now has the opportunity to have his B-sample analysed.

"The Club is obviously extremely disappointed," CEO Matt Gidley said.

"The Club has a strict governance program, the players are regularly educated and fully aware of the consequences of going outside our governance guidelines.

"From here, there is a formal process we need to follow under the guidelines.

"We need to respect the process and in the interim the Club will continue to monitor Jarrod's welfare."

Lol Mullen (allegedly).

Will getting rid of him put the knights seriously back in the player market for 2018?

Sandow nor Carney are the kind if player Brown wants IMO. Although they'll be desperate so who knows

Ben Hunt, potentially?

Mullen is on no small amount, plus freeing up some cash with Sims.

Of course whether he'd do anything more than laugh at an offer from Newie is the sticking point

I actually feel really sorry for Knights

I don't.

They'll be absolutely stoked to get rid of Mullen IMO. The bloke is on good money, misses half the season at least most years and is pretty shit for the other half.

Yeah it sucks to be in the papers and whatnot but Mullen doesn't make then a better team. Get rid of him and get someone else

They won't need any halves, it was suggested Mullen may have to play hooker to get a spot this year.

They have Hodkinson and the young rookie Lamb and also Cogger.

They don't really need another half.

I reckon they need some 2 experienced defenders on the edge (nothing flash just tough players) . Sadly Scott who they lost is the type of player they could have done. Plus a good leader in middle ( lock, prop or hooker - what ever they can get)

Lamb and Cogger aren't much chop at this stage tbh. They may rely on them but I'd suspect Brown will look for a half before throwing them to the wolves

Never liked them since 2001. Hope Pauli is enjoying himself.

They'll be back one day. Could take 4yrs. Wayne did them no favours signing old guys with only few years left while reaping benefits of squad BS put together.

Yep.

They were horribly run, even worse than what our club has been. Big dollar deals for players that have neither earned it or they were desperate to hold on to after attracting considerable deals from other clubs. Getting rids of the Sims brothers, Mullen, Uate and the like is a benefit.

Having Mullen off their books will allow them some freedom under the cap to attract some players that they need to strengthen their roster. Mullen would probably only have played 8 - 10 games anyway based on previous seasons.

Brisbane Broncos centre James Roberts accused of manhandling woman in Gold Coast nightclub

GREG STOLZ, The Courier-Mail
January 17, 2017 12:00am

STRIFE-prone Brisbane Bronco James Roberts is again in hot water over claims he manhandled a woman at a Gold Coast nightclub.

Concerned Broncos officials have launched an investigation into claims Roberts pulled the woman’s hair so hard she was left with a sore neck. He was then reportedly thrown out of the club by bouncers.

Roberts, who recently completed a stint in a Thai rehab clinic for alcohol problems, was already on his last warning with Brisbane and his contract could be torn up if the allegations are correct.

But the player dubbed “The Jet’’ for his lightning speed says he has no knowledge of the incident at Love Nightlife at Broadbeach early on Sunday morning.

Roberts was on the Gold Coast at the weekend for the Magic Millions races.

The 23-year-old complainant, who works in a Gold Coast law firm, told The Courier-Mail she was standing in the club with friends about 1am when Roberts grabbed her from behind.

“He came up from behind me and pulled my hair quite hard and yanked my head back,” said the woman, who did not want to be named. “It was pretty forceful and quite a shock as I was just standing there and hadn’t even seen him or spoken to him.

“I had a sore neck all day yesterday. After it happened, he just walked off straight away.

“Two guys with me knew who he was and went after him … security found him and kicked him out.”

The woman, who has long blonde hair, said one bouncer comforted her while others went to find Roberts and escort him out.

“It wasn’t very nice, especially as I didn’t do anything to provoke it,” she said.

“It’s pretty strange and upsetting and something you don’t expect to happen.”

Broncos chief executive Paul White said he was unaware of the allegations but the club was investigating.

He said the club was eager to speak with the woman involved, although she was reluctant to make a formal complaint.

Roberts’ manager, Jeremy Donovan, said he had spoken to his client, who “knows nothing about it’’. The Courier-Mail tried repeatedly to contact Love Nightlife yesterday without success.

It is the latest alleged incident involving Roberts after he was thrown out of Brisbane’s Normanby Hotel last August after allegedly abusing a female staffer.

Twice sacked by former clubs Penrith and Souths, there were fears Roberts would be sacked by the Broncos, who recruited him last season following his contract forgery saga at the Gold Coast Titans.

He was spared the axe but was fined $20,000 by the Broncos and ordered to undergo counselling and take part in community service.

Roberts later checked into a Thai rehab facility to help him overcome issues including alcohol problems.

Only days ago, he spoke of his desire to have a “much better” 2017 at the Broncos.

Sounds like she loved it.

Lost - Parker - Wallace - Jack reed while added Mead and Benji....

The NRL needs to give all Sydney clubs atleast 5% salary cap bonus. Perhaps 10% to keep it fair. Housing and living is a lot more expensive/
And they should grade it based on location within sydney ... eastern suburbs, manly, cronulla, st george get 10% - shitholes like penrith get 5%

Stats are a g

Stats are a guide only. To look at them any other way is silly.
Stats portray real events that happened on the field. They're not just a mere guide. The guide is the context a skilled analyst uses when interpreting them. Didn't they teach you anything at mopping school?
