Rumours and Stuff

It’s self refuting to say a club our size most likely be only getting a good enough coach and then talk about the time the Dragons had Bennett as their coach. If they could do it so can we.
I would say they were bigger back then. They had only merged a few years earlier and still had a stack of Origin players on the books. They made the finals in four of the five years before Bennett got there. In fact, whatever they spent to get him there and meet his demands, it looks like they never recovered financially. Their post-Bennett results look nothing like their results before Wayne Bennett arrived at the club. Sometimes the price of success can literally ruin a club. Look at Newcastle after Bennett, and they didn’t even have a premiership to show for it.

Canterbury after Hasler is a similar story.

@TheRam and @Avenger are spot on with their description of me. What you’ve pointed out is the difference between when I post sober and when I post after too many beers. I get a bit argumentative and can be a dick. Probably why I should stop drinking.
Drinking alcohol is also making you uglier. Just another reason to stop

This is pure conjecture.

It’s at least supported by the facts. They were good before Bennett, the were better under Bennett, and then they’ve been poor ever since. I’d say they mortgaged the future to get Bennett and spend what he wanted. Newcastle did the same thing and didn’t get the premiership to make it all worth it. Canterbury were also unlucky under Hasler where Manly were lucky. This narrative at least fits the facts. Do you have a better interpretation?

Rather than cherry pick facts to support a conclusion it’s ok to say I don’t know if you don’t have all the information. There are plenty of other possible explanations.

Hardly ‘very promising’. Good on him for playing reserve grade at 21 but JJBM did f**k all in that grade. Rodwell and Ogden were significantly better, and will offer more in first grade if required.
Both of those are much older and have offered very little in any grade they've played. We know their potential but JJBM was an unknown and with encouragement and experience could turn into a very good player. We'll see how he goes now but at a different team.

Go on then. What are your other explanations? How do you account for clubs rising and falling over time? How do you account for coaches having more success at some clubs than others?

No they've both been good in reserve grade, a prerequisite for offering anything in first grade. These are backups we're talking about, not future first graders. They are filling the role of NRL backups.

I'd say his potential is only unknown to you and anyone else wondering why no club wanted him. Do you see the difference? Ethan Sanders is leaving because another club wanted him more than we do. Betham-Misa left because we want him as much as any other club does.
