The point is they were strong for years before Bennett, then weak for years after he left.It could be a matter of bad luck as you like to say. The replacement coaches/staff that came after Wayne Bennett may not have been as good. Wayne Bennett may have had better rosters when he was there.
Yeah but correlation doesn’t equal causation. Everything has to be examined on its own merits. Sure your reason is possible but unless we have any tangible evidence that those clubs overspent on Bennett and paid the price for it years afterwards it’s only speculation. Personally, I would say that Bennett was at the Dragons 12 years ago and to continue to blame him for their current predicament is a huge stretch. They’ve had plenty of time to fix things. The point is they were strong for years before Bennett, then weak for years after he left.
Well obviously. You still think everything is about coaching decisions, when I'm saying the decisions that really matter are made at a much higher level. So the causation you think I'm implying is just wrong.Yeah but correlation doesn’t equal causation.
I'm not blaming Bennett, I'm blaming the people who brought him to the club.Everything has to be examined on its own merits. Time doesn't fix a resourcing problem. Why do you think our premiership drought is a couple of years shy of 40? Arthur's fault? O'Neill's? Sarantinos'?They’ve had plenty of time to fix things.
Most people don’t have a problem.
I’m not sure where I said everything is about coaching decisions. If you read my reply I literally suggested inferior staff (eg recruitment and retention) and inferior player rosters as possible reasons for the Post Bennett era mediocrity for those teams.Well obviously. this is true, a few whingers make enough fuss to cover for everyone
No, I'm implying that the spending required for even short term success is unsustainable for some/most clubs.I’m not sure where I said everything is about coaching decisions. I’m not sure how you can say you aren’t attributing Bennett as the primary factor for those teams being mediocre after his departure when he’s literally the common factor. You seem to be implying that he’s too expensive to be able to retain long term success.
"We/our" - who are you talking about? There has a been a cavalcade of decision makers allegedly getting it wrong for 37 years now. Is it possible there's something other than 'the idiots in charge' that has held us back?Time may not fix a resourcing problem but it does give you an opportunity to make better decisions to more effectively utilise the resources you have at your disposal. I would say we haven’t won a premiership for all that time because we haven’t utilised our resources to their fullest potential whilst other clubs have.
Read that Haze is back on track post injury. Hope he is able to provide competition for Russel. We really need our backs depth to strengthen.Just some updates:
The two Manly recruits are training well, have a great attitude and are expected to play plenty of first grade.
Sean Russell will play plenty of first grade and is training the house down. The level of fitness and his attitude is way ahead of some other more fancied players that play in his position from the lower grades. Had a shoulder strain and thankfully didn't need an operation.
Greig is back earlier than expected from a slight tinge during the Pacific tournament and realises now what it takes to make it in the NRL. His work ethic is sublime.
Blaize Talagi is the pick of the players coming through. He has been described as the best since Dylan Brown with a similar skillset.
If available we would take Ice back from the Tigers. Expect that noise to increase during the season.
Our fitness levels and the way we train is at benchmark levels. New recruits and some up and coming players initially cannot keep up. Trent Elkin and his systems are the envy of many clubs. He is a major asset to the Eels.
A top 4 finish is expected for season 2024.

Thanks mateJust some updates:

f**k off troll. There's some actual rumours and stuff for the adults to discuss now.No, I'm implying that the spending required for even short term success is unsustainable for some/most clubs.

Beautiful to hear.Just some updates:
So that's Harper and Tuilagi, at centre and edge forward. Interesting...The two Manly recruits are training well, have a great attitude and are expected to play plenty of first grade.
Russell has got the goods imo. Glad to hear he's getting primed for a big year.Sean Russell will play plenty of first grade and is training the house down. The level of fitness and his attitude is way ahead of some other more fancied players that play in his position from the lower grades. Had a shoulder strain and thankfully didn't need an operation.
Greig has potential to be a solid 40min contributor to the rotation, if he keeps on improving that fitness.Greig is back earlier than expected from a slight tinge during the Pacific tournament and realises now what it takes to make it in the NRL. His work ethic is sublime.
On a player option for next year, already with big wraps? I'd say our chances of retention behind two well-paid and locked in spine players might sadly be slim.Blaize Talagi is the pick of the players coming through. He has been described as the best since Dylan Brown with a similar skillset.
So we must have room in our top 30 then . He was happier with us, and would be a good addition during this year or for next, if he can continue his impact at a reasonable (old) price. If available we would take Ice back from the Tigers. Expect that noise to increase during the season.
Hardest off season ever...Our fitness levels and the way we train is at benchmark levels. New recruits and some up and coming players initially cannot keep up. Trent Elkin and his systems are the envy of many clubs. He is a major asset to the Eels.
It's good they're aiming high. But I'm not buying it, and think we'll struggle to get in the bottom half of the 8 this season unless there's some major yet to be announced/confirmed recruitment to come.A top 4 finish is expected for season 2024.
