The Eels are now the clear favourites to sign Dragons star Zac Lomax next year after it was revealed that Parramatta coach Brad Arthur met with the disgruntled outside back on Wednesday night.

Arthur confirmed to the SMH that he had met with Lomax to discuss a potential deal for 2025 and beyond, given the Dragons star has been given permission by his current club to look elsewhere for next season.

“I met with Zac at my home,” Arthur said.

“We’ve got genuine interest and we want to bolster our squad. We always said we were short an outside back. He’s off contract for ’25.

“I was very impressed with him. He seems like a very mature young man who knows what he wants to get out of his life.”

“At the moment, out of respect for Zac who has a game (on Friday night), and out of respect for the Dragons, we didn’t want to talk too much more about it.

“We’ve had the meeting and we’ve got interest, and once he finishes his game we will talk further next week about it.”

This news comes after the Roosters pulled themselves out of the race for Lomax, with coach Trent Robinson declared “we’ve got the centres that we want” even though current starters Joseph Manu and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii won’t be there in 2025.

Tedesco is done time to move on from the old brigade.

Moses is due back the week before game 1 i doubt he gets picked with 1 game in 2 and bit months.

Latrell and Tommy Turbo have 8 more weeks to get through which is an eternity with there fragile bodies.

Issah Yeo hasn't really done much at origin as great as he is at club level.

Agree. Yeo isn't built for origin. You need hard nuts

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur has upped the ante in his pursuit of Zac Lomax after hosting the St George Illawarra centre at his Hills District home on Wednesday night.
Sport Confidential understands that Eels skipper Clint Gurtherson may have also been in attendance as Parramatta stepped up their bid to sign Lomax for 2025 and beyond.

Lomax has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs after the Dragons announced they had agreed to a termination of his contract at the end of the season, making him a free agent.

The Eels had already made their interest known, having contacted the Eels about a month ago to ask for permission to speak to Lomax.

Now that they have been given the green light by the Dragons, Arthur has wasted no time breaking bread with Lomax as he looks to get the jump on other interested parties.

Lomax is on a deal at the Dragons believed to be worth as much as $800,000 a season and any club that signs the 24-year-old may be forced to carry the full value in their salary cap.

Under NRL rules players who are contracted are unable to move clubs for less money. That means despite Lomax cutting ties with St George Illawarra - his rich contract could still be included in his new club’s salary cap even if he agrees to a deal worth less than his Dragons contract.

The difference generally remains in the new club’s salary cap. Clubs are able to write to the NRL to seek an exemption to the rule. It is rare though.

I wonder if BA got in Blue Dragon takeaway?

It's interesting dilemma because we have given the in form Panthers players except Edwards the past 3 years at origin level and its failed miserably.

They will probably be leading the comp again at origin time.

How many of them get picked when the core group has failed the past 4 seasons to deliver at origin.

Edwards or Gutho should’ve been the fullback ahead of Tedesco last year, especially with Latrell and Turbo out as well. Freddy is a dead shit though.

Let’s not get too excited. We haven’t beaten a top 8 team yet.

Again......confused..Shouldnt he be dining at MONs house?
Arfur has sfa to do with recruitment.
MONs wife can’t cook as good as Bea’s??

If only we weren’t such a small tinpot club with no money we could have offered him a succulent Chinese meal FFS!!

If Lomax turns out to be a good buy it would have been all Bea and if he’s a dud it’s all MON’s fault again I suppose………..
