How much would we end up paying someone to replace him who would likely be inferior though? I suspect something similar.
Yeah, I talk about value as the key measure of any signing, but it would have to be the case that some capabilities mean you’re better off overpaying for one player (or a couple) than having someone who just isn’t good enough. Kicking is one such area. Leadership might be another. I think props who can bend a set defensive line used to be in this category but the game is much faster now and generating ruck speed isn’t difficult. More important in 2024 is forwards who can keep up with the ruck and hold the middle intact.

Massive sign of a lack of confidence and a team that has forgot how to win. We're simply not a team capable of defending for 80 minutes, so this mindset that has come over us in the last 2 games where we go in to our shells and seem to try and protect a lead is pure folly.

Leading by 2 or 22, we should be promoting the football at all costs. We've nothing to lose except another game....
yup considering that is where our strength is and not chasing the powergame any more as other's are better at it and our backs are not designed for it on top of aging forward pack.

Kelma is showing the way running in between players and lots of leg drive post contact.

Lane was also running between players.

Will uses footwork and doing well. Sivo, Guth and Russell runs straight at the defense and their goal is to surrender or not get pushed back. It's been trained into them for many years and has not unstuck

I think he’s developed into more of the player you want but he isn’t completely all the way there. Like a lot of his teammates, if we could transplant their current experience (minus the attitude) into their bodies 5 years ago….

Edit - he’s also partly to blame because of his price tag meaning we can’t spend that much more on his teammates. Although some of the worst offenders are also fairly high priced

I've taken on board what you've said, and I do agree to some extent - Mitch will put in a kick, nobody will chase it through, we will give up 15m, and Mitch cops the blame for an ineffective kick...but it's not solely his fault.

Honestly, the playing roster needs a huge overhaul.

Not just playing roster but attitude also needs an overhaul. Kick chase, like defence, is largely about attitude....

100% and teams have won more with lesser players than Moses, so he’s not untouchable

If the decision about the new coach doesn’t come before we next play we are amateurs. Officially.

When it does happen it will be intriguing to see what the new coach will do to the existing squad and who he recruits.

Don't we play the Saturday after origin, which is in Melbourne ? How are supposed to sign Hannay with that timetable if he is with the QLD side ?

At times it is on Mitch. He has to feel the energy of his team. For example, in the sharks game I think he kicked to Will Kennedy after the ball had been in play for like 4-5 mins without a break.

He kicked it really deep and our chasers couldn't get down there and gave Kennedy a broken line to run against.

He should've kicked it in touch... although a tap, all the sharks players still had to get back onside before the tap so it's a chance to set the defensive line.

Or kick it shorter to give our tiring chasers a chance to at least meet the ball catcher as he catches it.

I feel this is game management, not just to kick it deep or high mechanically but to feel the whole game, how your team's energies are etc.

I would say it's first week of July.

They have put themsleves into a corner now by narrowing it down to two.

With Hannay in QLD camp they will have to wait to the following week. To interview him again.

Can't he just interview over Zoom? If he has already interviewed once in person, surely the next interview is just a culture fit/behavioural exercise. Let's pretend covid is still a thing and just get it done remotely. Or is the clubs DSL modem on the blink again?

Possibly. Not too much leaks out these days. Barrett was in the three horse race last week cos one journo said it on 360. I don’t think anyone has any true idea where we are at with it, except those running the show.

If we are down to two, I’m happy with either Ryles or Hannay.

I do agree.

I think he is super skilful - probably the most skilful 7 in the NRL.

But it's how he uses those skills, sometimes, that irks me.

That's a great example - see your forwards are huffing for breath, kick it into touch, give them a breather.
