I’m confident Ryles will hold his ground re Gutherson.
Totally. The reason it made the media I reckon is his grub agent pulled a lever and it didn’t work.
Ryles simple said let’s see how the role works out and then understand his value. Of course Ryles would want Gutho’s experience and if he ends up covering Brown his value is a lot higher than if he is coming off the bench and we are humming.

Most rookie coaches could have folded I reckon. Bravo we are not locking ourselves into a contract on a bloke on big bucks when he might have a way different role / value to Parra.

Do you disagree? We had the eighth best attack and the sixteenth best defence this year. How would Alamoti have helped us?

With a fairly pedestrian attack (6th best) Penrith needed attacking moments from Alamoti. And with the best defence they were able to cover his defensive flaws. He was a good fit for the Panthers, but he would’ve been a poor fit for us.
Who did Parra sign that actually helped their defense? That’s what I was eluding too.As for pedestrian Penrith attack, that’s not wins comps. See last 4 years please.

$250k is what you’d pay your fourth or fifth best outside back, and we already had Sean Russell. Behind him we had minimum salary nuffies Harper and Cini, plus Talagi. And then there’s Dunster who is getting paid based on his ability before snapping every ligament in his knee.
No longer trying to change your mind on anything because i accept it is not possible for you to ever concede that someone may know something you don’t or have a valid point that disagrees with you.

In short, you are either a narcissist or truly have difficulties. Either way, I’m sorry for your troubles.

As to the substantive issue, I strongly disagree and can see the point several have made that Alamoti would have been a much better purchase than Harper, not least because defensively he is better than Harper despite his myriad flaws and in attack his upside is far far greater

As for the argument that we didn’t sign him because we had six three quarters, I find that to be untenable as I think that Alamoti would have been a valuable addition in Harpers slot and the squad makeup would not have been different, except for an improved three quarter

Do you actually think that maybe they didn't put as much thought into it as you do???

Maybe they just saw he was cheap and no one wanted him and said, f**k it...let's get him...he's good for depth....

250k was bang on. Signing a lower priced deal to play in a better system and put himself in the shop window.
I have to say. I’ll never argue with you re Panthers. What the Panthers have achieved previously in the nrl era was thought impossible. They certainly aren’t cheating the cap when you look at year after year their losses.
Champion side.
I don’t think they are done yet either.

Congratulations. Enjoy the moment mate!

Simonsson and Lomax are better defenders than Talagi and Harper. Hopefully more mobile forwards like Williams and Guymer help here as well. Ofahengaue was our best forward this year and we missed Hopgood. Getting rid of RCG will also free up minutes for these mobile toilers. Lomax can take his carries. Having Moses back in the side should help us control the ball better.

Gotta be better on kick chase. Moses long kicking game is our meal ticket, gotta capitalise.

4 GF wins in a row and yet he’s constantly in here harassing us. What a life.

I'm sorry that you failed in your careers as both lawyer and psychologist.

He cost twice as much as Harper (and Talagi) and would only have competed with Talagi for game time when Sivo/Simonsson got injured. If you think he would've looked as good in our team as he did at Penrith you don't understand the game. Alamoti's tackle effectiveness increased from 80% to 83% going from the Dogs to the Panthers. Meanwhile our two specialist centres Penisini (85%) and Harper (80%) both had their worst ever year for tackle effectiveness. The reason isn't that they suddenly became poor defenders, it's because they were isolated more often, and had to attempt more low percentage tackles. If Alamoti had come to our club he would have gone worse than Harper and Talagi (also 80%).
As for the argument that we didn’t sign him because we had six three quarters, I find that to be untenable as I think that Alamoti would have been a valuable addition in Harpers slot and the squad makeup would not have been different, except for an improved three quarter
Alamoti was on double the minimum salary. It's fine for your fifth best outside back but wasteful for the sixth best. We were already wasting that much on Dunster, which we have to wear until it is freed up. You don't throw good money after bad. He also would have taken game time off Talagi who we were trying to retain. Or he (Alamoti) would've been stuck in reserve grade with Talagi ahead of him.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Harper was brought in as a very cheap depth option, as proven by him finishing the year behind Talagi and Tago. Alamoti went to Penrith as their fifth best outside back, with the salary to match.

How can you say with certainty that they aren’t cheating the cap? Every team could be cheating and we’d never know unless there was a whistleblower. Maloney admitted in an interview a few years back that he was waiting for the club to sort out a sponsorship which I believe would’ve been cheating, have they stopped this practice?

but yes, they are the benchmark. Both on and off the field. They seem to do a great job of identifying talent and have an endless production line of juniors coming through to mix in with their established stars. They’ve strategically built a squad that fits perfectly to the way the game is currently played.

No I think every club puts at least as much thought into it as I do. I don't even get paid to put this much thought into it. The professionals absolutely would.

They keep shedding key players. Api, Kikau, Crichton and now Luai being the big ones.

Of course I can’t say with certainty. But come on.

What is wrong with me being complimentary?

I’m not on my own. Most club fans I think would say the same thing. “Good on you, geez I hope my club can replicate just a small bit.”

Honestly though, I think there is little to zero chance of them doing the wrong thing.
