It’s not so much a matter of cheating but having access the third party deals.

Or it's actually cheating if those deals are supposed to be at arms length from the club. The only reason that incident got picked up was because it got mentioned by a player in an interview. It's likely they were organisng deals like that before and maybe even after.
It's in the NRL's best interests to maintain an image of an even comp, fans would be disengaged otherwise and sponsors would not want to be involved. Seward was doing questionable things at the Bulldogs under the guidance of his 'mentor', Broncos weren't investigated with the Andrew Gee incident, nothing came of the cowboys/cheap property deals and the sharks were miraculously under the cap the year they won the comp. I don't think you can say with certainty that any team is not cheating. Even the shit teams, we won the spoon while cheating lol.

Does anyone else think Ryles has someone big for 25 if Gutho leaves? I’m all for doing the right thing by Gutho, and love Ryles not panicking to re offer him anything until we see where the chips fall early 25 but you can only front load contracts so much, so there doesn’t seem much point unless he is confident he can back fill and backfill well.

I reckon young Ryles is like a duck on water…

Don't worry he'll probably be like a merkin sprinting to a hole in the ground toilet after a questionable Indian curry soon enough.

I would like to think he has someone pretty good lined up for 2025 to cover any injury in the spine.

As i said the other night Dylan Brown's potential ticking time bomb with that ACL makes it almost negligent we let Gutho go any earlier then 2026.

Imagine worst case scenario Drown goes down in the first 6-8 weeks. And we let Gutho go for 2025.

Moses will be stuck with Iongi a rookie FB, Hawkins a backup 5/8 and Hands/Lussick in the spine playing with him.

Like poor Mitchell can't do it all on his own.

At least Gutho could fill in 5/8 and gives us better flexibility if worse case we lose Drown early.

Yes you can't control injuries but we can control the squad we have at our disposal for 2025.
Both Wishart (CO 2025) and Faalongo (able sign another club if Paps re-signs apparently) both probably become available and definitely worth throwing big money at which we should have 2026 and Ryles has a relationship with them. They would certainly open a premiership window for us if our younger forwards improve the way we hope they would after a year in NRL.

8yrs ago I said they where building a powerhouse and was laughed at.
@TheRam do you remember?

Spot on Hindy. You were way, way ahead of many on here as to how good some of their junior players were going to be, who are now household names and they laughed. As so many do when a once in a generation genius edjoomicates the masses.

Hindy for Prime Minister!

I'm sorry that you failed in your careers as both lawyer and psychologist.

He cost twice as much as Harper (and Talagi) and would only have competed with Talagi for game time when Sivo/Simonsson got injured. If you think he would've looked as good in our team as he did at Penrith you don't understand the game. Alamoti's tackle effectiveness increased from 80% to 83% going from the Dogs to the Panthers. Meanwhile our two specialist centres Penisini (85%) and Harper (80%) both had their worst ever year for tackle effectiveness. The reason isn't that they suddenly became poor defenders, it's because they were isolated more often, and had to attempt more low percentage tackles. If Alamoti had come to our club he would have gone worse than Harper and Talagi (also 80%).

Alamoti was on double the minimum salary. It's fine for your fifth best outside back but wasteful for the sixth best. We were already wasting that much on Dunster, which we have to wear until it is freed up. You don't throw good money after bad. He also would have taken game time off Talagi who we were trying to retain. Or he (Alamoti) would've been stuck in reserve grade with Talagi ahead of him.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Harper was brought in as a very cheap depth option, as proven by him finishing the year behind Talagi and Tago. Alamoti went to Penrith as their fifth best outside back, with the salary to match.
Not sure why we didn't medically retire Dunster. His speed has completely gone which is a real shame as had the foundations of a good winger with very good hands.

Is this even a word or a jumble of letters thrown in the air?

Goes back to our R&R offering Dunster a 4 year deal at end of 2021.

Was he in that much demand that we had to offer him 4 years.

He was nothing more then a rookie winger who looked solid without being a superstar.

Its almost like when the Titans gave William Zillman a 5 year deal who was of similar standard to Dunster just ludicrous.

yeah, it was definitely 1 year maybe 2 years too long however it was prior to his ACL exploding and he did have a decent back end 2020.

If the price is right then the number of years is as well. Young players are very low risk of getting worse over time. The Panthers have a youngster named Billy Scott on a four year deal (including PO) and he’s never played first grade.

Considering the career ending injury, it was three years too long. But if he hadn’t been injured it meant he was off the market for that long.

who's to say that we didn't already go down that path? it does take 2 to tango with that one.

Yeah I don't think Dunster after years of hard work to get fit again would of given up after 1yr. I'd imagine he will give the game away in 2026 if he doesn't get to NRL level

I look forward to Bulldog criticising the Dragons for the disrespect.
You will be waiting longer then a Parramatta premiership i reckon.

Flanagan is untouchable with News Limited especially after working at Fox.

I do find it ironic that Flanagan was busting his balls 12 months ago demanding Hunt stay under all circumstances.

When Hunt was pushing for a release.

Now things have changed Flanagan has leaked to news limited for the past 2 months about post season reviews and thrown Hunt under the bus.
