It is interesting and Ryles must either have some amazing signing up his sleeve or bat shit crazy

You are in your first year and the club has gone to shit if you want to win a few games this year you keep Gutho but now there is a lot of unknowns and it could go pear shaped.
It's a huge risk.

I am with you... it does seem a little bit like he has left to dodge the fact that he isnt necessarily going to be the first one picked in his preferred role next year (and beyond). I am sure he stated at least twice in the last 12-18 months that he would play in any position if needed and yet here we are...

Is he leaving because of that?

Or is he leaving because we could not guarantee him any sort of deal, until seeing how he played in 2025, whereas the Dad's Army over at the 'Gong were going to offer him a three-year deal (and with it, financial security)?

It's an even bigger risk than I first thought. I just had a look a Yongi's NSW cup stats and he defends at 76.2 %. That could be a problem and I'm now not entirely sure that there is much between Talagi and Yongi. Yongi could turn out worse with them numbers. 1 swallow does not a summer make.

It’s a sad day, even though this decision will likely benefit both sides in the long term. Clint Gutherson deserves to be celebrated as one of the greatest Eels’ fullbacks, right up there with Thornett and Hayne. His determination, heart, and relentless leadership on the field have made him more than just a player – he’s been the soul of the team.

Brent Reed reckons we’re in the box seat for Brailey and JAC
Tbh I was deadset against JAC but after listening to some pods, I’m all in. Highly unlikely to f**k up again, JR knows him and vice versa, still has speed to burn and good for the odd carry out from the back. In JR we trust. Also Brailey has been getting some good wraps, and the Cheese really rates Terrell May, offering inside info on him ( non drinker, doesn’t party, great guy and quite funny ). Open up the cheque book Parra, and we’ll be back in the 8 next year.

Gutho defended at 74% this year and 73% in 2022 when we made the grand final. he’ll be fine with more game time.

Edwards also only averages 81% and he is talked about as the best defensive fullback

Thanks for that. Good to know. I was going to look up The Kings stats but cbf. I just assumed they were better than that. Still, it's something Yongi will have to work on.
