I said sprinkling! But now I think about some more…
Iongi is our potential gun youngster (T Smith).
Williams is our forward signing (G Morrison).
Lomax is our established gun outside back (T Tahu).
JAC is our larrikin merkin (Piggy Riddell).
Which existing merkin will run out of the line in a prelim final to gift the cows a try??
Amazing how big moments define careers

Wagon played over 200 games for Parramatta but is really only remembered for 1 act of stupidity in that prelim final.

I have rarely seen anyone else on here discuss anything else about him as a player on here other then that moment tbh.

And is never talked about in that crop of players that came through during the Brian Smith era that stayed for a good 7-8 years.

I never really rated the bloke. He was solid at best.... But hey, not everyone in your 17 is going to be a superstar so that's fine. I always thought he was a bit of a handbrake in attack. Despite the prelim defensive error, defence was a strength of his game...

I do recall him as a bit of hog with the ball hence the handbrake tag.

But he played a variety of positions and was captain when Cayless/Hindmarsh weren't out so he provided value somewhere.

I think the other thing with the Prelim 2005 incident was quite simply he wasn't a rookie that got deer in the headlights. Tim Smith you could excuse a bit for his shocker but Wagon.

He had played probably 150+ FG games, Origins in a Grand Final and a number of finals leading into that match it was inexcusable from a senior player.

Yeh, I thought he did a very good job for us for most of his career. He could play multiple positions and had football sense. Compare him to the blokes over the decade before he arrived and he looks like a superstar.

Solid player that was picked to play 6 by Bennett coached Maroons side. That might have said more about the quality of players at the time but he was still there.
He did feel like handbrake but I do recall a magic cut out pass from him to set up a try in that game we touched up the cowboys at home in ‘05. Same game Tim Smith totally blitzed it.

I have a 2nd wonderful memory of Wags.

2003 round 26. We needed to beat the Panthers by 30 to make the top 8.
We are up something like 16-0 after 10 minutes. Another clean break made, Wags with ball in hand, options inside and out with only the fullback to beat.
He throws a dummy, gets tackled and loses the ball.
Panthers go back the other way and score, and end up flogging us 40-22.

Good times Wags, good times!
