Well who you have in your team all comes down to salary cap. I'm sure Cameron Smith is a better player than Cameron King, but would we win more games with significantly less quality players in other positions because we had a better player at Hooker?
So are we only able to surround King with quality team mates because we're paying him a second tier salary? And are we going to be able to re-sign him for the same amount now that he is winning 100% of his games? Surely other clubs will be throwing huge money at such a talismanic figure.

After all, the only stat that matters is wins. That must be pushing his price through the roof.

About time a club took their duty of care to players seriously. Why Parra didn't medically retire him earlier so insurance company paid his wages is beyond me.

Does anybody know if his pay counts on the cap?

Maybe because the guy is a professional footballer who was been trying his damdest to get back on the field and forcing him to retire before he has emotionally and physically accepted that his time is up, is pretty cruel.

Well if we continue to win and make the Top 4 and then he signs somewhere else and we go back to Kaysa Pritchard who has better stats you want to see but we don't make the finals next year then wouldn't that tell you that we were a better team with Cameron King in it than Kaysa Prtichard, even if the only reason was King was a lucky charm.

Was Kevin Kingston just a lucky charm?

More hypotheticals hey?

Kingston had great stats.

Here's one for you @parra pete

Talking to a bunch of blokes up the pub last night talking about Parra's best team, I mentioned Ken Thornett, the mayor.

Old fella: I used to play footy with him

Me: f**k off, Pull the other one

Him: I did

Me: Who did you play for (thinking an NRL team)

Him: Coonabarabran RLC, he played captain coach for 2 years 2 GFs and we won one late 60s.

He went on to tell me that the Mayor played lock for them, old mate played hooker in the days when scrums were actually competitive.

Me: How come he played lock ?

Him: He always said "I wanna be where the action is and keep an eye on you fellas."

I never knew that about the Mayor, damn good story, many beers and stories were exchanged all night.
Probably one of the best/most interesting thing I've read on this forum for a while. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I'll admit it was poorly worded.

Does Josh Hodgson have statistics you want to see?
No, he doesn't work hard enough in defence. But his attack is so good that if you were a team wanting to focus your attack through the middle it's probably worth covering for him.

I suspect that we won't really know how good or bad King is until the end of the season when we have a larger sample to choose from.

But going by his Illawarra Dragon days and what he has shown thus far for us, he is just ok. Just good enough to play NRL, but hardly anything to get excited about. The real concern though is his susceptibility to injury.

I would much rather a player like Damian Cook, much better player with speed and running game and doesn't get to many injuries. A player like him would get our forwards on the front foot. I think with better coaching he could really develop into a top shelf dummy half. Wouldn't cost a bundle and may like to have a change and play for a power house.

I rate Cook up there with Kaysa Pritchard. Both are ahead of King overall, though King is smarter and has better ball skills. He just lacks the speed or work rate for first grade.

Cook just doesn't win enough games though.

P.S. I would cut Kaysa Pritchard, not because his can't play, but for his own health. Jeez I have my heart in my mouth every time he takes the field.

Well he's attack has had 3 seasons working with the same players. King has had 4 games in a team whos half has been there for 7 games. He's also played 4 games of NRL in 4 years, who knows what his attack and defence both might be like this time next year. He's probably at least a contract at the right price, particularly now De Gois won't play again.

King has been training with these guys for over 18 months. Stop thinking a player's involvement in the NRL starts when he steps onto the field. Have you learnt nothing from Arthur's talk about Norman and Moses requiring a pre-season together? Do you know how many NRL games are played in the pre-season? ZERO. All the important preparation is done at training. This is how coaches know who is ready for the NRL team and who isn't. They're not shocked by a player's NRL performances, because they know what to expect from seeing his preparation through the week and all pre-season.

Yeah but most players in an NRL off/preseaon have played NRL in the previous 3 seasons. He's at least worth persevering with. After all, he's only competition at this stage is a bloke that would struggle to make most other NRL Top 17s

I hope we re-sign him, but fans jizzing themselves over how well he's going aren't noticing any of the things he's not doing. Things that all the top hookers (and Kaysa Pritchard) have been doing.
