...or maybe Des has indicated that should Walker get the sack they would be in a position to offer his $750-$800k. Therefore it is in his interest to hold off signing with us.
So you want our club to offer him more than they think he's worth in order to sign him before this seemingly unlikely event happens?

If Des offers those terms for Gutho, then we can fully understand the massive contractual problems he left at the Dogs.

As good as Gutho is within the system that Parra run, he is not elite and a club would be mad to invest that sort of serious money for a long term for him. Don't forget that the next broadcast deal is not expected to be as generous as the current one, lets be careful out there.

Well if latest reports are true they don’t necessarily need to offer him more money, just an additional year. I reckon that’s a pretty fair compromise and should Gutho manage to avoid a seemingly unlikely event of a career ending injury, the Club will actually be better off having a quality fullback taking up an even smaller % of the cap.

So why did the Warriors get in trouble regarding Dylan Brown ? His contract expires 2020 the same as Latrell’s.
The Warriors offered him a contract for 2020, when he is contracted to us (or we have an option). The Latrell situation is about offering him a contract, or discussing it at least, for 2021, for which he is not contracted.
Of course Crawley might be an idiot. But he might not be a total idiot.

Manly already have a high-priced fullback so I don't know why they'd do that. It seems like none of the other clubs have, and plenty of them are more in need of his services than Manly are. I'm happy to back our club's judgment and want them to stick to their guns. This is one the situations where having an administrator should work to our benefit.

Warriors wanted him for this year and were going hard for him in October even before Johnson left

No, clubs can only approach him from 1 November, 2019. Like to see a link that supports your position.

You might want to reflect on the trouble that the Warriors got into for approaching Dylan Brown who is also contracted to 2020.

No I'm right, you're wrong. :p

You don't know the rules...nanananana...

Crawly stayed on 360 last night that they can negotiate just not sign until November 1. I’m not sure I believe him though

On the money champ. This has been the case for ages. Anyone can talk to anyone whenever the hell they like. You can discuss amount and length as long as you don't present a contract until Nov 1 in the final year of the players contract.

The Dillon Brown breach happened because the Warriors had the audacity to actually send in a contract to his manager.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/wa...d-to-lure-eels-young-gun-20190217-p50yc2.html

The Herald has obtained a copy of the contract, which proposes to make Brown a Warrior until the end of the 2025 season. The base pay for seasons 2020 to 2025 adds up to $NZ2.8m ($A2.69m), plus $NZ60,000 ($A57,651) across those six seasons in relocation expenses.

The contract states the Warriors would accommodate Brown in 2019 as a member of their full-time squad if he gained a release from Parramatta.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason this doesn't happen to often is because unless the player is really worth the effort, why would you bother. A year or two out before that Nov 1, a million things can change or happen and when, not if, the players current club finds out, if the player is considered a keeper, said club will start their own renegotiation and probably end up keeping him. Big waste of time and effort to only make enemies within the game. But in the case of a L. Mitchell, it might be worth it to the Rabbitohs. I mean those two clubs can't hate each other much more then they already do, can they?
