I still think our chances of winning a comp will be a solid squad and hope we unearth a few gun players.
Who knows but Penisini and Russel might be the only x factor or spark we may need to go up a gear.
Hollis,Greig and even Hughes(if back).may be surprised packet's also.
but Kidwell and Murphy will get that X factor out off them

I don't reckon $200k is backup money. There would be plenty of top 17 players on that much. There would have to be, given the size of the contracts at the upper end. The top ten players would be taking up more than half the cap. Some clubs might only have $3M to pay the bottom 20 players. That's a $150k average for those nuffies.

Yeah, but 10 or so of those will be on minimum or thereabouts.

But it still works out that a few top 17 players will only be on $200k. The difference between that and $120k might be f**k all in the context of the salary cap, but for a player choosing between the two offers it's a no brainer.

I have faith in our jnr and recruitment strategy tbh. We haven't overpaid guy or given then to long a contract in a long time.Look at our two best players of last 3 yrs. N.Brown and Gutherson.
That enables us to stay competitive for a long time and makes a rebuild a short process.

Yeah i think one thing most people have figured out except some dopey clubs is having your salary cap in proper shape by getting value for money from your players you dont have to do a long rebuild.

Managing your salary cap is a science that if you dont get right it can take years to fix. Manage it properly you can stay competitive without bottoming out completely.

Parramatta learnt the hard way. Look at Brisbane, Bulldogs and tigers the mess they are in after wrecking their salary cap.

When gutho re-signed last time the club copped a lot of flak for the time i took but i believe they held their nerve to a certain amount.

Same as nathan brown and probably moses.

No one in our side is irreplaceable, no one is must keep the last two weeks is proof of that.
Funny how this comes out after a couple of losses though

Not one mention of this when we are winning.

Player managers worried some of their players value is taking a hit all of a sudden after some rubbish performances

It can work out however you want to split it up.

Matty johns spoke about Parra again on SEN today.

"I see Wayne coaching in some way, shape, or form (next year).

"If you look at Wayne and what he's done with teams, or namely St. George Illawarra, there are similarities between St. George Illawarra (in 2010) and where Parramatta are at.

"They're a team where you say they're a top-four side but they can't quite take the next step. It's like a sprinter who's at 10.02 (seconds) but can't get down to 9.9, that's where Wayne specialises in."

Johns says it could be make or break for Arthur if history of the Eels crashing and burning in the run home to the playoffs repeats itself.

"Look, it's a little unfair on Brad but I think it's a big month coming up for Brad because if they continue to struggle the question in the Parramatta boardroom will be can Brad take us that next step?," he added.

"If they believe the answer is no, then what next?"

Blog with Hoops: Sorry, Parra, the stats do matter. And they make for awful reading

Out of 18 NRL matches against premiers Melbourne Storm, grand finalists Penrith, Sydney Roosters and South Sydney over the past three seasons the Eels have won only six games for a 33.3 per cent win percentage.

Equally as concerning is the club’s record in their last three September campaigns in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

PARRA’S BIG FOUR FAILURES

2019: v Panthers (Rd 1) won 20-12, v Roosters (Rd 3) – lost 32-18, v Storm (Rd 9) – lost 64-0, v Panthers (Rd 11) – lost 16-10, v Rabbitohs (Rd 12) – won 26-14, v Storm (finals) – lost 32-0.

2020: v Panthers (Rd 5) won 16-10, v Roosters (Rd 6) – lost 28-0, v Storm (Rd 15) – won 14-0, v Rabbitohs (Rd 16) – lost 38-0, v Panthers (Rd 18) – lost 20-2, v Storm (finals) – lost 36-24, v Rabbitohs (finals) – lost 38-24

2021: v Storm (Rd 2) – won 16-12, v Roosters (Rd 9) – won 31-18, v Rabbitohs (Rd 12) – lost 38-20, v Panthers (Rd 16) – lost 13-12, v Roosters (Rd 20) – lost 28-0

Parramatta have won just one from six finals matches under coach Brad Arthur – the sole victory being the 58-0 flogging of the Brisbane Broncos in 2019.

Otherwise it’s been straight sets finals exits despite finishing in the top four at the conclusion of the regular season in 2017 and 2020.

In nine of their 12 losses against the NRL’s best sides, the Eels have been beaten by 13 points or more.

The challenge for Parramatta is dealing with the outside noise suggesting history says the look like premiership contenders every May yet then fade away at the business end of the season.

Latrell may have not had the best workrate and still may not, but he is an exceptional player and maturing every year. This SOO origin series showed what a class act he is.
He has also got rid of a lot of garbage out of his game. He used to basically push, shove, niggle in every tackle regardless if he was tackled or he made the tackle.
Not sure if it's Bennett's influence yet he seems a more settled and consistent player with that X-factor required to go to another level to win the big games.
Souths are my smokey to win the comp. Clearly Melb and Penrith are everyone's tip for the GF but Souths if they can get their defence in order they are a big show. Attack wise they have no issue. Their attack is fluent.

Calm? Composed?

He tried to pick a fight with Gagai at every opportunity in Game III...

He's a great player, no doubt - but he's not the, "Give me the ball, boys, and jump on my back" type.

He's more a, "Give me the ball - if I can be arsed to play to one fifth of my potential for more than 5 minutes at a time..."

Small sample size...grubby tactics by Qld to bait him.
Apart from that game he has been surprisingly good all season.
He has that x-factor about him we lack. Can turn the game very easily and quickly.
Still young and his presence has many opposition worried.
Would have him in our side in a heartbeat
