The Papalii thing was always going to blow up eventually once Maguire was sacked. I was told at the time the sweetner for the deal with playing under the NZ coach as Ice is clearly going to be a representative level player for long into the future. Maguire is gone now, so what exactly is the upside to going to the tigers? If we can offer the same money - then nothing.

From a contract standpoint - i dont think he should be allowed to renege on the contract unless we offer the same financial terms.

To me the Nathan Brown "no contract beyond 2023" now makes sense.
Leave now and get yourself a longer contract and we use the portion we aren't paying for his full contract to up Papali'i's contract.
Yes it sucks for the Tigers but at the end of the day if we keep Papali'i who is about to hit his prime and lose a declining NRown it's a massive benefit for us..
Contracts are meant to be broken...especially if there was a clause in it about the coach.. I won't mention the paper part as I don't want to upset too many ppl.

The other Papalii had a wee little change of heart a few years ago if I recall.
Then there was Tedesco who reneged on Ricky to return to The Tigpies before jumping overboard a second time for the brave Chooks.

You are aware the Tedesco backflipped on the Raiders to stay with you guys? And that it has already happened to us when we signed Josh Papali'i and he reneged to stay in Canberra? If it happens with Ice then it's no different to all the other times it has happened.

I enjoy deriding anyone who thinks there’s a simple or obvious answer. I enjoy having Papali’i in the team but he’s not good enough that we should entertain paying overs. Moses probably is though, in the sense that he might be impossible to replace. But then that really depends on Dylan Brown and how much we have to pay to keep him. One thing for sure, if we lose Moses our kicking game will be significantly worse. But our defence will probably improve. It’s never simple.

Go after Burton if we lose Moses.

If no clause then I'd want compensation. N. BROWN is not compensation as we don't really want him. I'd ask for a promising junior plus N.Brown for 200k . But I am with you. He signed and should stay loyal to that.
