This is the same Melbourne Storm that brought Luke Kelly and Billy Rogers into their system? The same Melbourne Storm that had George Jennings as a first choice winger for a year? Who gave Lumelume his only finals appearance? Who gave all these guys more than a dozen NRL games:No Melbourne are just on a whole other level when it comes to identifying talent.
Because they don't come through the junior system at the NFL clubs, and so they don't get to see their professionalism and work ethic until after they are drafted. If talent identification was such a no brainer then why do half of all first rounders in the NFL draft are busts?
Do they develop it or poach it?Why do the best teams in the NRL develop the best talent?
This is the Billy Slater who had two premierships stripped for salary cap cheating?I think talent identification is key to winning in this comp cause like slater said in the podcast I saw. He said he could have left Melbourne for more money but he always remembered Melbourne gave him his shot and he stayed loyal.
Even the top clubs lose plenty of young blokes. There's a huge list of premiership winners who left Melbourne for money. Penrith too. The difference is that they've already recruited more of them into their pathways, so they have a production line of replacements. Again, is it that they are identifying talent nobody else has, or do they just have recruitment/retention advantages? We already know Melbourne have been caught cheating the cap. Why would they need to if their talent identification is the magic bullet? Penrith lost a TPA because Maloney blabbed that he was waiting for it to be transferred to him from an outgoing Panther (Moylan?). This shit is rampant, but not evenly distributed, and explains why some players are so 'loyal' while others aren't. If we had more TPAs our players would be loyal as well.Wish we had that at parra, instead we got gutho and moses all through the papers being shopped around to every team in the league. No wonder our young guys don't feel an obligation to the club that gave them their chance.
TCT still crying over Booooooooods the next immortalHow come the Blue Wiggle isn’t coping more heat? The f**ker comes straight out trying to extort the club over Guymer and crickets from the NRL/media?? Even more interesting considering he used to be our junior scout. I’d like to hear TCT’s take on that..
Stop being melodramatic
Love to know who those 2 are? Hayne was the best I had ever seen come through from HaroldHmmmn not only that but his son just happens to play in a team with 2 of the best junior prospects I’ve seen come through the Parra district since Hayne. God I hope they’re not with Cove.
It’s hard to get off the bottom. Penrith has shown that if you put systems in place that you can get to the top. Brisbane has shown that if you don’t utilise your resources correctly you can still struggle to stay at the top.But not with the same advantages. You can't honestly pretend it's a level playing field when the same clubs are near the top every year.
Logic isn’t your strong suit is it. Although yes I rounded it.If it was next week, we would need to beat you by 86. By then it will be over a hundred.
Heard it, interesting that she said that she and Gus learned what they know from Penriff as well.
We sign some of them, e.g. Lomax. It's not a secret who the good players are ffs. The problem is some clubs get them cheaper (under the cap) than everyone else, which means they can fit more quality players under the cap. It's the accounting that separates the top clubs from the rest, not talent identification. The 'right people' have ways of getting players to agree to cheaper deals (under the cap anyway).
We also don’t control the quality of squad other clubs are able to put together.
Yes we do. If we had the right people in the retain and retention side of things we could sign quality players that other sides end up signing. So yeah if you're worth your paycheque as HOF then you can influence the quality of players other clubs put together.
Brisbane have a great squad that is severely underperforming. The quality of their squad shows their resources and systems are just fine. Their poor form this year points at a more temporary problem than systems or resources. There are broken relationships within the playing group. It’s hard to get off the bottom. That was over 20 years ago though. The game is far more professional now and every club recruits from Queensland (and NZ and country NSW).
Retention yes, but identification implies clubs aren’t all aware of the talent pool. Just because we haven’t heard of a given player doesn’t mean the 17 clubs haven’t been tracking him since before he was 18. Guys like Mitch Moses and Boyd Cordner were poached from Harold Matts teams. It doesn’t mean their existing clubs (Parra and Newcastle) didn’t know how good they were.
That and they lost Farnworth and Flegler. For mine that is not to be underestimated. Herbie is up there with the best centres in the game for mine. Flegler added incredible punch off the bench, he was close to Brisbane’s best in the GF.Brisbane have a great squad that is severely underperforming. This is likely why we are underperforming this year (plus all the injuries). Hopefully the new coach sorts it out, because our squad is fine, although not as good as Brisbane’s.
Flegler at club level was better than Haas. Flegler and Haas together really laid the platform for themThat and they lost Farnworth and Flegler. For mine that is not to be underestimated. Add the experience of Capewell and to a lesser extent Keenan Palasia. It takes a toll on your performances. We know just about better than anyone.
When my Broncs supporting mates and family were giving it the “we will win it next year” chat I was thinking to myself, I wouldn’t be too sure.

Haas is a great player but for whatever reason rarely stamps his authority on a game too often. Regardless, the Haas / Flegler one two punch sure has more about it than Haas-Jensen.Flegler at club level was better than Haas. Flegler and Haas together really laid the platform for them
Farnworth also better than Staggs.
Also one of the players said it a few years back, Kevvy can't coach...it's Reynolds who coaches the team..
That player may now also be in trouble with the law...not for that statement..obviously
Sure but last year they had the best squad in the comp. It’s good that the salary cap had an effect, as it should, but even so they still have a great lineup. Plus a few youngsters should be even better players this year. Instead they’ve shit themselves. That and they lost Farnworth and Flegler. For mine that is not to be underestimated. And next year they’ve got Kevviewell kevie has only coached them to one final series in his 4 season's at the cub.
but we keep getting told he is the right man to get them out for the hole they are in from all the bronos old boys
