Don't forget...sivo was coached by supercoach to just hit it up, so opposition just knew he was never gonna pass and was simply cannon fodder in his hitups....poor guy was physically and mentally broken....you could definitely see it in his body language

The last few weeks he was actually looking to pass and step around the defence.
Sorry mate but the thought of Sivo being encouraged to look for a pass coming back makes me want to be sick.

The ONE thing that would make him elite would be to bring the ball back at 10/10 every time and skittling the odd defender doing it. The bloke is a cat, and a dumb one at that.

Anyone encouraging him to stay must have watched a different game to me the last couple years.

And people use to murder Luke Burt over it, is gutho any better??

Yes. Gutho is better.
He is 4th in the NRL for 2024 kick return meters.
That is ONLY meters gained from returning kicks.
He beats Tedesco and Turbo (etc)
Only Edwards, Drinkwater and Kennedy have more than Gutho this year.

In terms of average per game, Iongi is number 1 with a bullet - but to be fair he only played 1 game... good signs though.

Tl;dr - you can't blame Gutho for Sivo's lack of willingness to ruck it out with some force.

What wasI thinking , my eyes must be painted on. Guthos speed and footwork makes him a dangerous kick returner

*Strength, positioning and bravery
makes him a dangerous kick returner
*reliable

The thing is, the effectiveness of a kick return depends on the kick pressure and where it's kicked from. If you improve your defence you limit the opposition's kicking game. It's very synergistic.

At his prime gutho was a prime example of how to play the position.

Those days are behind him

Maybe they watched his last few games being coaches by someone different to BA as he was a completely different player.

Mate I respect your opinion, but it's about variation. You would want him to run hard and fast.. but if the opposition know he has no intent on passing, they just gang up on him and smash him... it's little subtleties like passing once in a while or even faking a pass that puts the opposition in two minds...but he just never did it, which I put down to BA gameplan.

BA's gameplan was stubborn and flawed.

He never wanted 2 dummy halves. He always wanted one that could play 80 Mins with the highest quality.

Yet he would then he sub Reed Mahoney off after 70mins in some games to give Jake a token 10 mins. Most of those game we generally let in 2 tries in the final 10 mins.

Warriors and Storm at Commbank in 2022 ring a bell.

He never did this tactic any other time during his tenure.

So for me it suggests BA got blinded by either the bloodlines or clearly had no idea how to ensure the team finished off a game with a ruthless mentality.

I suppose the tactic worked in the 2022 GF when we scored 2 tries but we were down 28-0 and it looked like most parra fans left the stadium.by then
