The issue is and was, how bad was the cap situation . Short handed etc and still seemed tight even then, the option situation doesn’t seem to have relieved that much pressure.

He was spot on. Cleary was an ordinary attacking player with good defence and kicking. Just like Jeff Robson. It wasn’t until years after his Origin debut that he could consistently set up tries. It’s a similar trajectory to Dylan Brown, though he doesn’t kick well. Laughing at Gronk now is like laughing at the people who said Moses was shit seven years ago. At the time they were right. The fact he has improved as a player doesn’t change the past, as though he was always this good.

On a related note, Blaize Talagi’s defence will improve. Does that mean we’re all going to be f**kwits for criticising his defence in 2024? We are right. We won’t be wrong in hindsight.

It's easy to say that we all knoew that Cleary would be the player he is now after we've seen it happen. He wasn't this player 5 years ago. He was a good halfback. Better than Robson was, but I could see where the comparison came from.

Merkins on here love their hindsight. Chris Sandow's signing was celebrated on here when we got him (not by me) but now eveyone says that he was always terrible.

Apparently we should have known that Foran was going to turn out to be a shit signing, despite it being lauded as the best signing we had done in years when he came over from Manly.

Gutherson played dummy half for 20 minutes until Mahoney came on ffs. Terepo was there to improve the middle defence. In fact it’s when Mahoney came on that we fell apart.

Cleary was lucky to get 10 try assists per year back then. He was the worst attacking half to get picked in Origin since Daniel Wagon ffs

He didn't make over 10 try assists in a season until 2020.

It's since been reported that Forans issues were well known within his club and one could reasonably assume that that knowledge was known to their assistant coach. It could also be assumed that Coach wanted his man right or wrong even if it meant paying mega bucks and a get out clause, with payment, every year of his contract.
And let's not forget the other Manly bloke who was as shot as Hodgson when he arrived.

I said Nathan looks special ages ago. His kicking game was awesome as was his calm presence. He also had a run game.

Well those issues didn't affect how well Foran played when he was at Manly, so there's no reason to assume they would afect him at Parra.
