Rumours and Stuff

As per post above i reckon our team between 2020-2022 was good enough to win a comp.

2020 for example Moses had a shocker of a season and his semi final against Souths was horrendous our attack was the worst out of the teams that made the finals that season and we had a backline of Sivo, Fergo, Jennings, Blake, Drown, Gutho with the 6-again rule coming in where bottom teams were conceding 40 & 50 points very easily due to the adjustment of the rules.

Moses only had 8 try assists for that season compared to Gutho who had 17 in 2020.

Unfortunately it was the one season we had our defence in good nick just our halves/attack couldnt fire a shot all season.

2021 - We lost our way in QLD when we were entrenched in the top 4 for the first 17 rounds & the way we played against Penrith & Melbourne that season the top 2 sides showed to me we were good enough. Unfortunately consistency cost us and our late season slide.

2022 - Well when you toss up 2 disgraceful performances against the team coming last which costs you a Top 2 spot meant we had to go to Townsville for a prelim we shot ourselves in the foot which hindered us on GF day due to taxing effort we had to go through to get there which could have been avoided.

Agreed - my view is that it was a lack of attention to detail that prevented us from being the dominant team of 2019-(now)!!

We had a brilliant squad that thrived on camaraderie and knew they could win against anyone. They had a great 'us against them' mentality and 'effort above all else' theme. But standards were allowed to slip, and possibly favourites were played, and so we slid pretty badly.

The main question for 2025 is around standards. Can they be reinforced, and can those who have been allowed to be lax for too long be held to account on 'attention to detail'?
Defensive structure and resolve will tell us a lot through the first 5 rounds

There's more to it.

----8<---

The NSWRL have officially announced Laurie Daley as the new Blues coach, while Craig Bellamy will join the Blues as an advisor in a shock move.

The latest Jam & Cheese pod reckon that Bellamy WON'T coach against Munster & Co and will not give Snoz the secrets to playing against the Melbourne crew.

Thoughts ?

I loved watching Burty - smart, quick, and a quality goalkicker.

His try in this video against the Dogs was brilliant.

Gret try, that one.
The one at 20 seconds into the video against the Broncos was also brilliant.

Loved Burty.
Probably went on a year or two too long, as the game had moved on from that type of winger, but I'll always remember him as a Parra legend.

Was a very good fullback as well, but just happened to have excellent fullbacks in the team in front of him most of the time.

I went to school with Michael Ryan. Some older heads on here might remember him. Played maybe 50 games for the Broncos back in the day before two knee ops finished him. Anyway, I remember him coming back from Aussie Schoolboys saying wait until you see how good this kid is you’ve signed. Best player in the side he thought. Was a special one Burty. Parra legend.

Has this been flagged anywhere?

Been a lot of talk in various forums. Ryley Smith is in gold denoting fitness leader. JoeO fittest forward.
Samrani in white is thought to mean best under 21 trainer.
The green jersey is typically worn by sprinters, but it can also go to riders who are consistent and persistent so a bit open to interpretation.
Something along these lines.

Looks like it changes every week. Paulo was in the polka dot, Doorey in the white and Papali'i in the green. Haven't spotted who's in the gold yet.

He could've transitioned into the halves around 2010

If Iongi doesn't progress we have Joash Papalii who is also a potential gun at fullback. Although I doubt Iongi will fail and maybe Joash plays at centre. A backline of:
Iongi
JAC
Papalii
Peninisi/Samrami
Lomax
has plenty of speed and plenty of class. Has to be one of the best backlines in the comp imo.
Ok then.

Yeah , it was a big call - particularly given you guys have the incumbent Australian, and NSW, fullback, the incumbent NSW winger, and the best halfback in the game.

I like our backline, but let's not get too carried away, here.

Lomax, and Addo-Carr, are proven performers at the highest level - the rest of our backline features great potential, and that's it.
