Rumours and Stuff

It's very interesting how some people from opinions on players.

One of my mates, a die-hard Eels fan, was probably Paul Gallen's biggest fan - he would go on, and on, about how he is Hindy Mk II, and how he wishes he was still an Eel.

My mate would constantly praise his stats - which, admittedly, looked good on paper.

One day I simply asked him outright if he had even watched his games.

My mate said that he hadn't, but stats are stats, and that 40 tackles, and 200m run, speaks for itself.

So I took a look at Gal's stats for the month - and, indeed, he was making 40 tackles a match, and running for 200m a game.

However, his 200m would usually come from more than 20 hitups.

So, I started watching his games.

And while I don't think anyone can doubt Gal's workrate, or his heart, I think it's fair to say that he got in the way of his teammates quite often, and "padded" his stats a bit.

I still think he was a great player, but it's interesting to see how people judge him from watching him play, as opposed to just reading his stats.
Lost a few SOO matches thru hogging the ball rather than passing imo. Him and his bruise brother (can't remember name) both did it when both selected together.

Seriously Pou, you must have never watched a game that Aaron Woods played. One of the least "mobile" props to have played the game. Slow, pillow that backed into defences for a living. The definition of stat padding. At least Gallen had minutes going for him before the peptide crackdown.
That's the long and short of it those first 9 words of yours by his own admission pretty much....

Yeah good Origin level defences love giving the opposition space to shift the ball. You have to earn the right to take those easy carries through the middle. Everyone knows the key to beating good defence is to go around it, under 7s style.

Spoken like a merkin who hasn’t watched a game of origin since 1987.

I watch it every year. What I see is plenty of hit ups. DCE spent most of game three last year tucking the ball under his arm because NSW gave him no space. The Queensland back five made a lot of runs for f**k all metres. Their middles were too gassed from tackling to carry the ball.

If you watched every year you would have known what a Hog and a handbrake Gallen was, same as Teddy.

How were last years highlights on NRL.com??
I can tell who merkins think are hogs and handbrakes just by looking at the stats. No doubt Queenslanders all think DCE is a handbrake for holding the ball rather than throwing wild speculators. tHe WiNgEr WaS wIdE oPeN fFs!!!

After that a normal person admits they got it wrong and just moves on. Not our Pou who doubles, triple and quadruples down.

Everyone knew that Collins is known as Herman Munster? I just Googled ‘Herman Munster NRL’ and it returned results for his brother Cameron. The last Herman Munster I remember was Martin Bella ffs
you of course didn’t watch the game and had no does what I was talking about.
I might’ve watched the game but how was I supposed to know what game you were talking about when you’re making up your own nicknames for players!
At least man up and admit it ffs!!
I already told you I don’t watch every game.
