Teams need backups any time, including in round one. Harper was banished to reserve grade once we had four fit outside backs, and made his final NRL appearance (in jersey 19) in Barrett's first game in charge. Davey was signed because we had an injury crisis in the forwards. After everyone was back on deck he moved to the bench and then retired.

Lomax is ineligible for the first trial. The only definite starter that'll be eligible is Addo-Carr as he has a 2 week suspension.

Should still be able to tell if Penisini plays the first trial.

Who knows though as they will be testing a few positions out .

Latu has more of a chance as he can take any position on the bench where as Martyn is a winger and behind alot of players.

Thinking out loud about our backline this year, the only question really, is about Ionghi and hoping he is as good as he appears to be albeit with only 1 first grade game.

A likely backline of:
1 Ionghi
2 Simonsen
3 Penisini
4 Lomax
5 Foxx
6 Brown
7 Moses

… is pretty f**king electric if you ask me. I’m a Simonsen fan as I think he is a great winger and works hard. The others are very known excitement machines so if, Ionghi is really as good as we all want him to be then wow what a backline with Brown and Moses! Honestly I think the rest are more than good enough to win a comp with a strong forward pack.

It is a nice looking backline - IF Iongi is as good as we hope. I hope so, too. Because if he isn't, there will be a pretty big Gutherson-sized hole in that backline.

Gutho was a great defender but wasn’t much of a threat with ball in hand.
Been a while since we’ve had a dangerous fullback.
If Iongi doesn’t work out Joash Papaliiiiii is a fullback option, apparently.

Peninisi is a very good player who lost his way in D last year. Hopefully our new improved systems will correct that this year and he thrives in our new setup with faster players around him.
