Fletcher is in ball along way off even being considered for NRL backup.
Sanders and Talagi were in SG Ball and less than 18 months after the grand final, both had rejected our offers and been announced elsewhere.
Volkman may want to hang around and play understudy for another year or 2 he has jumped around and it nearly ruined his career.
I'd say it was injury that nearly ruined his career.

its amazing the perception some have of a particular player....

Volkman V Drown...

I thought Volkman was pretty good, especially in his first game back after a long break. And definitely has the potential to be an NRL starting half.

But gee he aren't anywhere near Drown's class (and yeah I get the potential cost saving between the 2)..

Regarding the game Drown was good.

While the stats show, Drown, is in a total different class then Volkman:

Volkman - 1 TA, 1 LBA, 3 runs 18m, 80% defence, 8 tackles, 1 kick

Drown - 1 try, 1 TA, 1 LBA, 1 LB, 1 TB, 10 runs 102 m, 94% defence, 12 tackles, 3 kicks

Anyway using Sanders as an example he played a year early should have played the season in Flegg. We just all wanted them to develop so quickly because didn't have much in cup as backups.

So with Fletcher this year once Ball is over he needs to develop in Flegg for 2026 then in 2027 if he is ready come into CUP. (A pathway of you want to call or that)
These kids are scouted heavily by the time they are in SG Ball, and there's no "You're playing Flegg next year, take it or leave it" with the best of them. They are getting good offers for top 30 spots straight out of SG Ball.

I found it hilarious

I love JoeO even more now
I love him too, but that's because I'm a childish bogan who doesn't care about Corporate America (Australia branch). Unfortunately for Joe, and most NRL players, the clubs (which are also corporations) care desperately about keeping their fellow corporates happy, both now and in the future. That's how woke culture has crept into pro sports despite the majority of players and fans finding it stifling and oppressive. If they want the big money the need to please the ones with the money.

When Bellamy brought in wrestling coaches 20 years ago his players didn’t suddenly jump of the top rope You get the outsider perspective and apply it to the existing game and find little advantages..

I can see the correlation between league and wrestling. I just don't see it between the nrl and nfl

Well then good luck to them we are in the business of winning competitions not being bent over by players. If they don't want to buy into the pathway to first grade at the Eels then oh well.

No control to round 10, absolute genius strategy.

I can't believe we are going away from PO's!!!
Here's a tip, without the PO we would have no control until Drown, or his replacement, makes a decision anyway. Last time Moses re-signed he was announced in round 11, with no PO holding him up. How much control did we have then?

Agreed, and that's the decision we made with Sanders and Talagi. Luckily Guymer was already contracted when he tried to squeeze us for more money, and we were able to renegotiate on our terms. But it's likely his manager didn't anticipate the demand for him by mid-2024, and we were lucky enough to lock him in early. Sanders and Talagi were standouts in SG Ball and their managers knew not to accept our lowball offers. But that doesn't mean we should've gotten ourselves into a bidding war to keep them, especially when there was no place for them in the halves in our NRL team.

It’s easier to see in reverse. Like every NRL fan looks at American football and wonders why they don’t lateral after the catch more. American football coaches are a lot smarter than league coaches so they would see a lot.
