I've criticised Pou about options before, but he has a point here. The only reason it was offered was to secure the player at a better price. Essentially, the player sacrifices some money in exchange for flexibility. It's easy to call it a bad move now, but imagine if we had lost Moses just because we didn't offer him an option.

The problem is nobody can see the money the club saved, but everyone (media and fans) can see the option in the player's favour. That's all they consider and it's turned into a media circus. The reason is that we have spent two years out of the finals (coincidentally since we stopped offering POs). Back when we were making the finals every year, no merkin gave a shit about the player options.

It’s the media circus around it that’s the issue not the PO itself . You are right with many of your thoughts on PO but as we can see when you not doing well the media piles on. If from memory storm had one less than us but no one is hammering them
