It’s a weird one to post. It’s not a positive comment but that’s what I’ve been told.

I think he was talking about attacking kicks, not clearing kicks. The problem there is it becomes another thing that requires referee interpretation.

If a team can’t lug it beyond the 30 or even 40 in a set of 6 in this day and age they absolutely should have a hard time.

I’m talking about both. I would consider all of Cleary’s kicking game an eye sore. What he does would be garbage in the 80s or 90s.

Maybe. But even good team could get pinned and then it could become a one sided affair, simply to avoid kicks.
I’d like rules that encourage expansive or risky play and the ability to win the ball back.
On kicking, it’s not an easy skill. If it was, everyone half could kick as good as Mitch and he’d have less value. The ability for kickers to drop it close to the line, but not so close to outrigger a 20m tap, is super impressive.
Edit: The ability to drop it close to the line with a 105kg behemoth charging at you, is even more impressive.
