I think where old Dylbags leaves a sour taste in the mouth is that many elite players view big contracts as a 2 way street. If the player signs a big deal with security put in it for their benefit by the club ... then they go out and repay that to the best of their ability. Following on from that whatever happens happens. It's a professional sport , guys are going to get offers that temp them.
Dylan has not repaid his contract and the investment in him since 2022. He f**ked up off field in 2023 and it basically cost us a finals spot.. he was disappointing in 2024 and didn't live up to his contract value.. and he's disrupted our culture rebuild and start of 2025. In my opinion he's entitled to take any stupid offer he wants from the Knights but clearly we can all see the difference between a guy who wants to do all within his power to repay the club and his teammates and develop his game to match the contract he's on and a bloke that doesn't have the leadership , commitment and self awareness it takes to get to the top in a team sport.
There's a reason our 100+ game half and the 2nd highest paid player in the club wasn't in our leadership group and a bloke that's played 0 games for the squad is. Since 2022 Dylan hasn't lived up to his end of the contract . There's been solid performances here and there but his personal progression and development hasn't reflected the commitment we made as a club to him. You'd like to think he has a huge 2025 to go part way to repaying the club but given everything he's shown to date in his career he's yet to put it together for many 80 min performances let alone week to week and for a whole season. This over his head will more than likely be another excuse for why he didn't get it done... him being Newcastles 1.4 mil problem may not end up that bad for us. I mean , we're coming off a 40 point drubbing against Melbourne and he has such little awareness that he spends 10 mins talking to the media about next year. Im sure the club told him to address it once and get it over and done with but he couldn't figure out for himself how to make it primarily a next year focus. Some blokes get what it takes , some blokes don't ... I'm willing to bet that a cashed up Dylbags forever struggles to figure it out.
