Well that did'nt work last week.

The Melbourne Storm should be monumental favs to win the comp this year . They have the best back up in every key spine position in the comp , continuity with their spine and strengthened a side that made the Grand Final.

Anyone can win on their day if they’re playing well , but they’re so far ahead of where us and most of the rest of the comp need to be.

I think this is a huge development year for Ryles . Both as a coach and for his team . Week to week we need to improve aspects of our game like our edge defence which have been trash for years . Our concentration errors , our new and evolving systems , our lack of on field leadership , deadwood hanging on to roster spots .. etc etc . We need to be getting footy into our young players like Iongi who I thought did some really strong things today and can get better week to week . We need to start being competitive and winning games to get the short sighted fans and media off our back.. but every week needs to be about building to the next one. It’s short sighted decisions that got us into this spot just keeping our head above water the last few years . I hope fans have the patience to stay the course.

Ryles helped develop the Storms leadership model over the last few years . He knows what he’s doing in that regard .

The lack of leadership in our players is beyond staggering . Another failure of the BA era. Barlow isn’t a leaders asshole. No talk , no follow me , spits out BA style answers in the presser . Ryles will spend 4 mins talking about the areas of our game that were positive and being let down by concentration errors and the edges and Barlow will use a BA line about not turning up . After a try is scored against us there is no talk behind the posts , the communication on field is next to non existent .. Dylbro might talk to the bloke right next to him when he has to that’s the extent of his communication .. Mitch holds this side together . Him not being there to steer the young guys around is a complete disaster and has made life incredibly hard for Ryles .

I think fans have to be patient and Ryles has to keep the players together . He’ll come out of this a better coach. It would’ve been easy for him to keep Gutho , RCG etc around but we’ve had next to no succession planning , no quality depth and those guys weren’t taking any team to the promised land .

Dylbro is taking a back seat to a 7 who hasn’t played in 2 years and has 7 games experience . Volkman is on a train and trial contract and would’ve been hoping to re-establish his career in Cup. If that doesn’t tell people not upgrading and extending Dylbros contract was the right move nothing will. Real rough start but I’m confident the coach isn’t making easy decisions to cover his ass and is more concerned about where the club needs to go next . Hang on tight and get through the storm .
I can't disagree with anything you have said here.

The mess that Brad Arthur left this joint in is beyond a disgrace.

And its now looking like a 3 or 4 year rebuild because the extra GST were going to have to pay in recruitment is going to bite us in the arse when it comes to depth in certain areas.

MON deserves some flak as well for the succession planning that has been beyond a joke.

Volkman had played 5 FG games before coming here and has been thrown into the halfback role off a 12 month lay off outside the NRL system.

He had a train and trial contract and is all sudden expected to steer us to victory.

Isn't that what Newcastle are paying the bloke wearing our 6 right now to do for the next Decade.

Back on Volkman I would be happy to see how he goes as a 6 which where he played most of his junior footy outside a Moses and judge him more there to see if he can compliment a dominant half.

Paulo well I gave him an out last week with not playing a trial but I can't defend the bloke anymore. But maybe I was going soft on the bloke

He has become worse then what Tim Mannah used to be in dribble on every pre-season about how everything had changed and produce the same garbage.

Hmmm here's one for you to argue about:

Has Ryles lost the dressing room, the experienced players at least?

If he has, we're in for a few spoon to near-spoon seasons.
It's certainly possible. He might even have been brought in with the intent that he would lose the dressing room. Pushing out the senior players is a painful experience for a footy club, and Ryles might've been chosen because he's a giant hardarse with an impressive playing career under his belt. He doesn't need the support of the senior players, especially if there are zero expectations around on field results this year.

If you consider the senior players we re-signed after 2021 when we lost to the eventual premiers by two points, if we had told them 2022 would be their last year at the club, and that we would be rebuilding, our premiership window would've ended in 2021 and we might not even have made the finals in '22. How happy would the fans have been with that?

FFS, I'm away the October long weekend in 2049. Looks like I'll need to wait until 2087 to experience the one after at which point I'll be over 100 years old.... Better start living clean and healthy!!!

One thing the club could explore is see if they can get the Head of Recruitment at Canberra to move, despite its disadvantages they seem to find better than an average players, even from SuperLeague. Their juniors are strong and don’t seem fazed when they step up into NRL.

Would seem an upgrade and could kickstart a difficult period of reset. Whatever succession plan our recruitment gurus have
had in place for the past period, it ain’t working.

I asked it to do the next 40 years and we don’t win one in that time so I’ll just have to get on board with Perth Pirates, PNG Hunters, North Sydney Bears, New Zealand Orcas, West Sydney Expansion Team or Tasmanian Devils who will all win one or multiple titles in that time
