Maybe look at the people who signed them, not sure that the R&R team aware blameless. Too many missies and questionable extensions, options etc .It’s a tough area but not good enough in reality.

I see that there is alot of ppl to blame.

What was the strategy back then when BA was around. BA probably knew he had a small window to win the GF and to save his career and he went for older experienced guys. Maybe he only wanted the 2 years to achieve this and didnt care about the following years. Therefore, the PO didnt matter to him. It was just get them signed so they can win the comp in the 2-3 year window.

If the strategy was we need Guth, Reg, Dyl, Moses in 2023, 24, 25 then just get it done. even if they want POs We'll win the comp and then no one will care. Since it didn't pan out that way, it looks like it went to crap. If we had won the comp, no one would be so fussed about the POs and that we signed old fellas.

Since JR has come, the strategy appears to have changed. Hire younger blokes with potential. No POs. Very different to St George who went after older players with experience

So whoever decides or agreed to the strategy back when or now is to blame.

Most fans could see the premiership window was going to close after that GF loss 2022.

We dug ourselves a hole by not sacking BA after 2023 and should have just made the ruthless call there and then.

Like Brisbane did with Walters last year.

Making a GF a year earlier was irrelevant really and instead we pissed and threw away a whole season in 2024.

If your sacking a coach in Round 10 you have admitted you have wasted a whole off-season & year basically.

I think a few on here pointed out after that last round Penrith win that season it could have been the worse thing to happen.

Because it left the club in a mindset they were unlucky to miss the finals by 1 win and BA said post match that night it was simply down to 24 weeks of suspensions that year through ill-discipline that let the team down.

It has probably set this whole rebuild back 2 years because we weren't fast enough to action it earlier that would have enabled a quicker reset/rebuild instead its meant the hole has got deeper and the mess will be harder now to get out of instead of 18 months earlier.

The clubs that make big decisions have alpha male types in position , such as Gould and Richardson, even Bennett at a stretch. To describe anyone in our R&R bevy of geniuses as an Alpha is seriously a pisstake .

The strategy back then was to create a premiership window and keep it open as long as possible. Do they now deserve blame because our dice roll was bad?

I agree it is a risk but right now Brown isn’t stopping us having 40 put on us, given his situation he is far less likely to care if we lose every game by 40 and even if he does then you run the risk that by him helping us not get slaughtered every week, that he actually becomes worth what he’s being paid, only for him to take that to Newcastle.

Conceding 40 this week is a distinct possibility. How will you feel about Brown then?

I think we beat the Dogs this weekend.

well, yeah, wrong strategy.
It is the only viable strategy for football staff whose budgets (e.g. salaries subject to a hard cap) are imposed on them.
If you were leading a corporate company and did that then you deserve to be sacked.
Corporate companies don’t have any equivalent to premierships. Their goals are all financial, and the value of winning premierships would be measured against the cost of the investment.

My theory is that most of our top 17 players actually aren't as good as we would like them to be and this has been the case for a few years.

BA managed to get them to over perform in getting to consistent finals appearances from 2019-2022.

What we are seeing now is just how they are.

Apart from Moses (and now Lomax and possibly JAC), who else in our 1-17 walks into the three-time wooden spooners Tigers side tomorrow and improves them?
85% of NRL players are good players in great teams and average players in shit teams.

The other 15% are the result influencers and determine whether the 85% are good or average.

In 2024 we had 3 result influencers in the entire squad. Two were shown the door and not replaced with another result influencer, and one is out injured for at least a third of the season.

You won't play Finals football with only one result influencer in your squad.

Jim Sarantinos
CEO of the Parramatta Eels speaks to Dean Ritchie refuses to answer 2 questions

“I know our fans are frustrated but give us time, we have complete faith in our coach. We need understanding, patience and we will improve.”

This is the blunt message from Parramatta chief executive Jim Sarantinos after the club’s horror 0-2 start to the season.

In his first interview of the NRL season, Sarantinos backed the club’s decision to allow Clint Gutherson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard to leave, denied Dylan Brown had become a distraction and said he was “completely behind” new coach Jason Ryles.

Bulldog’s Bite posed 10 questions Eels fans wanted Sarantinos to answer about the club falling in such a heap. To his credit, Sarantinos fronted up under pressure and declined to answer just two.

Bulldog: Should you, as CEO, shoulder some blame for the first two defeats?

Sarantinos: No one at the club is shirking responsibility. My job is to support Jason, our staff and players through this period of change and ensure they feel that support at all times and have the resources they need to do their job.

Bulldog: Was letting Clint Gutherson and Reagan Campbell-Gillard a big mistake?

JS: Those decisions were made by both Clint and Reagan and our football department together, to get the best outcome for the club moving forward as well as the players’ futures. I am comfortable that these decisions are the right ones for us as a club and are a part of the change and reset that comes with a new head coach and a change in direction.

Bulldog: Are you shocked at the poor opening two games?

JS: We’re all disappointed with the results. It’s certainly not the start we were hoping for. However, we have driven a lot of change to the football program, across coaching, support staff and playing personnel, and we know it will take some time for that to all come together.

Bulldog: What’s your message to fans?

JS: We have the most loyal fans in the NRL and I understand that they are frustrated and disappointed but we have complete faith that the change and reset of the NRL program will make us a better club and we want our fans
to come on
the journey with us.

Bulldog: Many agree the Eels can’t make the finals already?

JS: It’s only round 3 and too early for predictions. We have a number of new players to our squad, a number of young players just starting out their NRL journey and we also have some key players returning in the coming weeks. It will take some time to build cohesion in the team and our performances will improve with time.

Bulldog: Is Dylan Brown now a distraction?

JS: No. Dylan Brown has made his decision and we’re all focused on the rest of the season and making sure our performances improve.

Bulldog: How are you supporting Jason Ryles?

JS: Jason has been fantastic from the day he first walked in the door and has built a great relationship with everyone at the club. We have supported Jason in bringing together his new coaching and support staff. We are completely behind his desire to drive change for the betterment of the club and we all want to see Jason and the team succeed. He is starting out his NRL head coaching journey and many others have experienced similar challenges, so it’s important that there is understanding and patience.

Bulldog: Was losing by such a big margin to Wests Tigers, who have collected the past three wooden spoons, acceptable?

JS: (Declined to comment.)

Bulldog: Where does the club go from here?

JS: We have a game to play this weekend against the Bulldogs and that is what everyone’s focus is on. We have the utmost belief and confidence in Jason’s vision and where he’s taking our football program.

Bulldog: It would appear the 39-year wait will continue?

JS: (Declined to comment, interview concluded.)

Bulldog says

Parramatta offered very little last weekend against Wests Tigers, who have run last in the past three years.

The Eels’ energy and enthusiasm were minimal, which is unusual because a new coach normally generates vigour and spark.

Parramatta needs to find respect and quickly. The club was confident and self-assured around the exit of Gutherson and Campbell-Gillard. Any regrets now?

Let’s be fair. Parramatta has been playing without Mitch Moses, Josh Addo-Carr and Ryan Matterson. Moses is world class but could he have stopped his side conceding 88 points in two games? I doubt it.

Ryles is two games into a four-year contract and deserves time but Parramatta fans are tired of being told to wait for their next premiership.

They are fed-up with being assured their team is in a rebuilding phase. It’s been 39 years and counting.

A premiership isn’t even in the equation for the Eels. They would be more worried about claiming another gong – a wooden spoon.

Gould with Rookie Coach now challenging.

Then you have the absolute good governance CEO dope managing to turn us into a spoon team. They have no clue. We don’t have footy people in charge. They would not know how to run a footy club or build a club. I’ve been saying this for the last 2-3 years that they will turn us into the f**king tigers. And here we are getting flogged by the Tigers. Absolute disgrace

In my opinion, nope - it has little to do with a new voice.
I said the same thing years ago. We simply don't have the cattle that other clubs would want, therefore our players aren't as good as we think.

Tell me who from our top 30 you would chase if you were Graham Richardson at the Tigers, or Gould at the Dogs and were trying to strengthen your top 17?

View attachment 99967View attachment 99968

3 definite and 4 possible backs and 4 possible forwards. So in my opinion, 11 of our top 33 would likely get a chance in the top 17 of the Tigers or Dogs and this is debatable.
If we sat down at the start of last year and asked how many Bulldogs players a team would want it would be about 3 and we have one of them now .

Even Penrith are getting significantly weaker year on year . BA didn’t get the most out of anything . He had 11 years to develop strong attack and defensive systems , he had international halves , rep forwards .. our best years were 2020-2022 when the comp was going through disruption and we were one of the few teams with a lot of continuity. We still copped pastings , developed his raw as hell 18 year old as a back up half and guys in our team weren’t improving as much as they could’ve . Our systems didn’t hold up against the best sides , our youngsters coming through in the backs were reserve grade quality ..

More than any time in history the top end teams are built on quality systems and players that can fill their role in the system . Bulldogs deliberately targeted players they needed to execute roles , Penrith recruit that way and have developed that way , Melbourne have done this for a long time . They aren’t the biggest name recruits they’re guys that will do the job.

We have way too many guys that don’t live up to what they have to do . Our outside backs look like they’ve received little to no football education since they came in . Penisni and Russell have bombed that many opportunities since they came in .. not to mention their defence and decision making. BA has been blowing smoke up Penisinis ass for years saying the club will be built around him while his play has deteriorated season on season . He’s at a point now where he’s almost unplayable in the top grade till he fixes massive problems in his game . All these issues have fallen onto Ryles .
We have little to no leadership, a complete lack of direction when Moses is out.. he has recognised this and tried to bring in an actual back up half who has also been out injured . I think if you sit back and look at the big picture Ryles is making moves to recruit , play and develop guys who play how he wants and guys with a bit of IQ. There’s been a lot of recruits from the Dogs system so he obviously rates Ciraldo as a coach . The system will be greater than the parts in the system when all is said and done .
I think the Dylan Brown situation should also give fans more confidence in Ryles . Dylan has displayed below average football IQ since he started , he’s made questionable decisions on and off the field and has shown a complete inability to guide a side around without Mitch. To top it off he’s given us little to no value the last 3 years and come asking for more years and tried to get us to go head to head with a ridiculous knights offer . He wasn’t worthy of bending over for . I’m sure having to navigate this season with a distracted and maybe even slightly unwanted Dylan is another obstacle but he’s done what’s best for the club . We can’t have a half for 10 years that won’t step up if Mitch isn’t there, lacks dependability in his week to week performance , has shown no ability to bring through the next crop of young halves and can’t even be counted on to be part of our leadership group . We have the right guy in charge fans just have to be patient because the media sure as hell won’t be .
