STRIVE FOR FIVE
The Dolphins have been a revelation since joining the NRL in 2023 and V’landys revealed Queensland could have a fifth franchise as part of a 20-team league.
The ARL Commission has been underwhelmed by Kiwi bids for a second New Zealand team, opening the door for the Brisbane Tigers or Jets to be Queensland’s fifth NRL club.
“Another NRL team in Queensland is an option, absolutely,” he said.
“We have never ruled out a fifth team in Queensland, there’s a lot of options for the 20th team and that’s one of them.

“I wouldn’t say the business case isn’t stacking up for 20 teams, it’s more a case of the bids not being very good.
“There’s a difference between the quality of the bids and the business case.
“I think the business case could stack up. We’re in no rush to go to 20 teams.
“We’ll be taking it slowly to make sure we are doing the right thing, but Queensland is definitely one of the options.
“It is not a foregone conclusion that the 20th team will be a second team in New Zealand.
“The Dolphins didn’t cannibalise the Broncos.
“In fact what they did was create another rivalry between the Dolphins and Broncos. If you add another Queensland team, you can create more rivalries with the Broncos and Dolphins.
“Naturally, we would have deep discussions with the Broncos, Dolphins, Cowboys and Titans and want their support if we were to expand again in Queensland.”

The NRL need to get another NZ side in the competition plus once the 10 year funding for PNG is over they can bring in another QLD side or even an Adelaide team...

I’m going to go all Nostradamus on you and predict Hopgood to have an absolute blow out, break out, game tomorrow night.

It’s the opening magic round NRL game, it’s QLD sacred turf, Origin around the corner he can have a stand out “I’m here” game for Billy,

Potential Source: Medicinal gummies.

Liam Martin is the most overrated player in the game. Take him out of a good team and he's a nobody. It's a wonder he doesn't post on LU.
I got what you were saying in the first sentence. He is overrated. He doesn’t have a great workrate while the best players of all time do. But when he does do things, it’s at 11. No one in the comp has that top gear like Martin. Or did. He hasn’t got to that level himself so far this season. But I do kind of agree, there’s probably better backrowers in comp. Certainly probably better value ones at least

After a storied and decorated career of contrarian takes, this may be your worst and weirdest.
It’s bizarre, but it’s also just another to add to the list of takes that proves not that he’s a troll, but that he’s an absolute vegetable when it comes to understanding football. Dumbest merkin who understands absolutely nothing about the game.

I don’t think he’d be on huge money. He re-signed quite late last time and there didn’t appear to be huge interest in him. I guess he’d be on around $650k whereas the highest paid edge forward would be on about $1M.

I would think that Ryles wants the players to prove themselves in each grade before being rushed into the NRL.

Next step Flegg.
He will certainly play Flegg this year and maybe even reserve grade. But Ryles will want to see him in preseason before trusting him in the NRL.

I’m very interested to see how Coinakis goes in his career. He’s quite a big hooker, and strong. Not very quick. If he’s smart and has a big motor, he’ll become a first grader.
