You would think whoever signs Matterson for 2026 doesn't really need him until March, so won't bother signing him until 1 February. That would be a smart move anyway.

Let some other dumb f**ken club pay him $175k for 3 months pre-season, then split the difference with the same dumb f**ken club to get him off your books ($262.5k each), meaning we'll likely still pay Matterson $437.5k in 2026.

Our R&R team & board are the Keystone cops of the NRL with the absolute ridiculous decisions that have been signed off on in the past 4 years.

Lane, Matterson, Drown are the 3 major ones there contracts now are a bloody disgrace.

Then we have the duds in Momoisea, Harper,

The time to Sack Arthur was end of 2023 instead we wasted a season in 2024 by keeping him through blind faith he could get us somewhere in his 11th season.

Then the tail between the legs with fiddling around in the dark trying to sign Bennett & Galvin.

We may have dodge a bullet on both of them but the PR and how we approached both of those signatures were embarrassing on both fronts.

Overall the reforms in 2016 have cleaned up the political shit fight but it hasn't changed the incompetence that runs through the club.

Which is less then the 10% of the cap that Gus suggests is reasonable to pay players to play elsewhere when managing the salary cap.......but what wouId Gus know.....
