Rumours and Stuff

Cini, Lumelume & Mulitalo weren’t in top 30 from memory.
Rodwell was a junior and wouldn’t have been in top 25.
Ogden I thought was actually pretty handy when he was called upon. Plus I doubt he was on a lot.
Murchie, Momoisea & Harper played a combined 16 games and didn’t last a season. And at a guess Harper would’ve been highest paid and I doubt he would’ve broken the bank. If those 3 are the worst signings… we weren’t shit in 2023-24 because of those 3.
Shit signings for me are Sandow (although I maintain we got really f**ked by shoulder charge change) & Evans (and even that is partially in hindsight).

Now if it’s not being as calculated on resignings then I agree they’ve been failing hard BUT given the start of this year and Ryles having big impact on moving on established players then I’d say BA was given likewise discretion. The problem would then be MON didn’t temper it/negotiate better deals.

Just an honest questions, do you think any of these were signed as starting 17 players or were they squad fillers?
Should they have been squad fillers when you could promote a junior and give them experience and a pathway? Just a question btw

I'd like to hope not, but for whatever reason the club obviously didnt think there were sufficiently skilled juniors available or they would probably done that.

With those signings it seems like the club was trying to polish a turd in footy speak as we didn't have the players coming through.

It seems like now we are using juniors as squad fillers and purchasing first grade players where we are lacking until a junior player is available.

I'd agree. We had stacked our focus on NRL pretty much throughout 20-22 and as has been mentioned before, the pathways and juniors werent given as much $$ by the club during Covid. So while not excusable it makes sense as to why our juniors werent seen as ready. An increase in junior spending over the last 2-3 years as seen improvements in our junior teams and an increase in players that are nearing NRL readiness.

Several posts around that suggest we are signing Jack Bird to a 2 year deal. FMD , surely not, that would be the final nail in the coffin of R&R and their ability to build a roster annd identify recruits.
What posts? From who ?

Well, Jim Sarantinos went to lengths recently to explain how the club operates. The coach identifies the player, and it is then up to th recruitment officer and HOF to negotiate and sign the target. Pretty simple and gets the CEO off the issue, so if we see the CEO as correct, then no further explanation of our problems are needed.

Perhaps the issues have been there for a while and not centred on the coach 🤔
So you're saying the the front office sign players without consultation with Ryles ? Here's me believing he had total autonomy. Did he want any of the players we have signed ? Did he want to release any that we have ? The juniors ? I hope he likes them, cos looks like he's stuck with them.

Good grief, that’s not what I said . Go back to the politics thread, you’re wrong there too but preaching to your own kind

Apparently Lomax as considering 360 rugby.

If he is only on 650 a season I would be against letting him go mainly because we have no other option
I think I said this in another thread, but if Lomax is so desperate to leave already we should let him go to Rugby but cash in ourselves by negotiating a nice big fat transfer free from the Qataris or whichever middle east franchise is backing this 360 farce.

Maybe we could buy Semi Radrada back?

But isn't the fact our recruitment team got a star like Lomax for unders at 650K be to their credit? Not being devil's advocate here but this was a great deal by the club.
To be honest, the deal was brokered by BA. Fortunate in a sense thst it was completed by R&R prior to his sacking. BA met snd persuaded Lomax to sign for the Eels
