Rumours and Stuff

Didn’t realise he had played so little games. Papali played 13 so only 5 less.

To be honest he played one good game against the dogs in a very strong Melbourne storm outfit. Is he really that good? Surely between volkman, Hawkins and Papali we have it covered. I mean is pezet better than any of those 3? And even if he ends up better we don’t get to see the benefits, Brisbane do.
Partially because he has such a horrible history of injury. Rewatching some of the games with Joash he played a lot better then I remembered. His first assignment was to get his defence right. He did that. He actually showed some nice subtle ball playing skills. He just didn't show us many of those ankle breaking stepping runs we hoped to see from him.

Do you think he will develop better in reserve grade than in the NRL? I've read that throwing blokes into the NRL before they're ready can stunt a player's growth, because he learns bad habits out of sheer survival instinct. Iongi came to us ready for the NRL because he played almost 60 games in reserve grade. Other players get thrown in early (e.g. Galvin, Talagi). Do they never reach their potential, or is there some maturity that allows a select few players to learn the right lessons while under pressure to win NRL games?
I think it depends on a variety of factors. Including the environment and the overall team structure the player is going in as well as the personality of the player in question. There are numerous examples of players being thrown in the deep end and effectively undergo a trial by fire who thrive but conversely there are those that struggle and are stunted - and as you mention develop 'bad habits' due to being relatively inexperienced and having a lot of expectation foisted on them.

I think this season Talagi and Galvin are two interesting twin cases. I would argue that Talagi showed tremendous growth throughout the season playing in a still strong and relatively stable Penrith's team week to week, whereas I didn't see similar improvement for Galvin. I think his growth was disrupted by changing teams mid-season and being inserted into a team that was performing well before he arrived.

Williams would've been signed with the money freed up by RCG, so he was a direct replacement. We signed him knowing we had options in the middle (and RCG wasn't needed) and Williams had utility value. We also signed Kautoga and re-signed Tuilagi. Williams signed for more than one season but we got value out of him for one. Whatever happens in the future doesn't change the fact he helped us this year. He earned his money. Hopefully Pezet does too.

Honestly I don't get the Purdue hype. Sure they've been limited opportunities, but he really didn't prove that he's a future first grade half during the short stint the Cowboys gave him this past season. I think he's another Burton - his best position is centre.
Possibly. I don’t think we necessarily need a traditional half paired with Moses. Smith has shown an improved kicking game as well. Someone like Purdue or Averillo who are strong ball runners might fit in well. Then if Lorenzo is good they can shift out to the centres where we are weak as well

2025 was a rebuilding year and Drown wasn't dropped until he had been ordinary for 15 weeks. That was four months after we announced he would be leaving (which was before round two). If Drown had been playing anywhere close to his best, I have no doubt he would've played the entire season. And we would've won more games.

Don't rewrite history to pretend Ryles dropped him as soon as Drown decided to leave. Ryles is a professional, not some pissy fan.

You need to go listen to Ryles on the Cooper Johns Podcast...

The point is Williams would still have been a good signing even if it was only for a year. The exception is if we were overpaying him (and we'll never know if that's the case). But if we are overpaying him, then a year would be better than multiple years.

Pezet will likewise be good value unless he is overpaid. How much will he be paid? The answer is we will never know, so why complain about it?

He did when he got to be at the back, for whatever reason he just didn’t seem to have confidence in running in the halves.
He just needs an offseason and experience to get his timing and confidence. He proved he was able to defend in the frontline. The rest will come if he gets the chance.

This is literally your dream....laying the boot into smarting Parra fans - it's what you live for!

The funny thing is that only two things need to happen for you to argue the complete opposite of your current position:

1) if it were announced tomorrow that this was incorrect and that the club had no intention of ever being cuckolded in this way; and
2) if other members of this forum expressed their disappointment that we didn't take the chance of a one year deal

you would be against this Pezet deal that quickly and that vehemently it would not be funny.

You would argue for everything you have opposed tonight.

Everyone knows it and its why you are almost universally regarded as a colossal malicious troll

And he is filling one of ours. It’s win-win.

I’m now looking forward to 2026 even more than I was. If it turns out to be bullshit I’ll still be excited about next year, but less so.
It’s lose-lose. If he does well it’s like damn this is hard to watch because he won’t be here much longer anyway. If he does poorly then it’s like why are we wasting our time? He’s not going to be cheap either. We could have used that money elsewhere.
The biggest L is how weak we’re looking to the rest of the NRL. We’ve just announced that we’re happy to be a transit lounge for players. How is that good optics for a club looking to move upwards?

I wonder if we signed Pezet as a backup for Moses and Joash.
Brisbane couldn't take him until 2027 and he needed somewhere for a year only.
Maybe his option to stay in Melbourne was only if he accepted multiple years and that didnt work for him?

Lots of possible reasons it's a 1 year signing and none of us fans know.

That makes sense, but it still strikes me as a little odd.

What does the club owe Pezet, to give him a contract for 12 months - especially given (should the story be true) that he will go to another club in 2027?

Having a player play for only 12 months in the halves could arguably be more disruptive, than continuing to develop players that already know our "system".

I am sure there is a reason for this alleged contract, but it's got me puzzled.
