Looking at the comments re the all in training session, some suggestions that Semrani should play centre when the season starts, really underlines how the backs have been ignored when depth and experience is needed. Russell was played as a wing in the NRL sort of team, they better be busy early in the New Year to counter the issue, strange it’s not been addressed given how obvious it is.
Could also mean Samrani has improved, as you'd expect from young or inexperienced players.

Agree, the point was playing Semrani in the centres as there wasn’t some9ne coming through once Simmonson was out, is a worry. Russell should remain at left centre , but who plays if anyone in the 2-5 is out. Currently we have untested raw juniors and no experienced depth. Making do with back rowers is a problem there.
Samrani isn't a back rower, he is an edge utility, who has played most of his senior footy at centre.

im watching the rnd 25 game VS the roosters atm its the 60th minute and the roosters apart from two miracle offloads from marky mark, they havent even looked like scoring!

Such an impressive team display!

ive watched the Knights game, Warriors Cowboys etc i remember we had a good end to the year. But re watching it now, its so much more impressive than i remember. The cohesion in our play in both attack and defence, you can tell this is a well coached side.

It’s so refreshing, because for many years we looked like a side that had first met each other in the car park before the game.

cue the ministry of crapaganda….

That's what some on here forget, or more importantly, refuse to acknowledge, when only quoting stats.
Our start to the season was dreadful. That was half expected with a new coach, game plans and tactics, and starting to blood inexperienced youngsters into the team. It was always going to take time, and Ryles pretty much admitted this.
His honesty throughout this period was refreshing and a huge change from stale press releases that we had become accustomed to for so long.
He backed up his words by the end of the season.
We became a team that week by week, actually went into a game with more confidence, and personally I became confident that we could beat anybody.
Player's performances improved, our new systems started to gel, our skills certainly improved, as did our defensive structures and attacking plays (except for the continual boring bomb to Lomax ploy).
The 2nd half of last season gave us plenty of hope that we are on the up.
Now, we just need to strengthen a few positions for starting and depth. We all know what they are.
Ryles has been a breath of fresh air.

Ryles and the coaches were shocked at the lack of footy IQ amongst a fair chunk of the players when they arrived.

I think thats what made it even easier moving on players who were too far set in there ways like a Dylan Brown, Lussick, Lane.

You can even throw Gutho into that category all effort and whole-hearted but there were probably 2 glaring weakness in his game speed and smarts.

He made up for those flaws with continious effort but footy smarts were never really coached into him across the decade here.

In turn Ryles brought in a Dylan Walker who is a very clever player and knows his way around the footy field.

JAC has been elite in systems where standards and attention to detail is drilled in by a Craig Bellamy.

He brought in Iongi who has come from a elite penrith system and building his game piece by piece i think he has more talent then Dylan Edwards.

Ryles has a vision of building this club into juggernaunt piece by piece.

Still a long way to go.

And if there is one decision they actually got right in the front office in the past few years it was appointing Ryles.

The speed and extent of the improvement in 2025 was extraordinary

lol now Gutherson lacked footy smarts
I think offensively he did. He was ok capitalising on position but I don’t believe he understood actually how to play to a position. That said I also think Moses was deficient in that area too (impacted by having others around him who didn’t know to be fair), and nor do I think Hayne did either.

But also in this loveathon of our good games at end of season, people should also rewatch the Souths game and how monumentally dumb we were there. It was a game we gifted to them by having no smarts around understanding where we were failing and not addressing it

I get your point about the South's game.
Even as Pou says, a team can't be on board every week.
I'm prepared to forgive them for a bad performance once in a while (and this was it).
And, it's no Love-a-thon. It just an acknowledgement that we actually generally performed better and improved at the latter part of the season.

I think the way the team responded to the disgraceful performance against Souths was a quality coaching perfomance in itself.

The BA years we put in a shocker and you of sort of felt it took 3 or 4 weeks to get us back on track.

Last year following week we bashed the roosters up for the first time in the Trent Robbo era at home.

Generally whenever we beat the chooks it was close games. This time it wasnt even a contest.

We then backed it up over in Auckland who basically where a loss cost them 4th spot. Warriors in NZ is a tough trip most of time.

In a way the Souths loss might have been a blessing as it gave the coaches a real chance to show the players what they did wrong and the consqeunces of it.

The week before from memory we scraped in against the Cowboys and it shouldnt have been that close we had them on toast and a FG decided it with the same dumb shit we tossed up against Souths.

And they reacted accordingly. That is what I believe to be a Melbourne mentality and what (I believe) an attitude that Ryles has brought to the club. Time will tell, however, I'm so glad that we have fresh coaching staff here to reinvigorate the club.
