Have a look at Mitch Kenny, hardly an elite passer etc but a a terrific worker.

Riley = Can kick and a better passer. More skill I think but Kennys defense is like a hit man....

Kenny at least gets a few try assists every year. It's a lot better than zero, which is Ryley Smith's output in 26 senior games.

He is a lock forward who can pass. And also in a far more dominant side and behind a better pack.

I doubt they would. Apparently the Flegg hooker is pretty good I think he will be in RMC instead..


Smith has only played 4 games in cup with a win percentage of 100....

I like Ryley Smith, but never kicked on as expected at Penrith for whatever reason. But he was moving positions regularly from 9, 13 and even a bit in the halves.

Parra might do well using the Panthers method of using a more defensive 9 rather than focusing on attack. Moses much the same as Cleary controls the attack most of the time, so Smith is more than serviceable as a defensive 9 who can distribute the ball. Hope he kicks on.

I agree with you, mate - I think the way we play, we are better off using a dummy-half that defends well, and offers good service, like Smith.

I love his work-rate, and am a big fan of his attitude.

I had a chat with my bro in law at Christmas who as some might remember is involved in the QLD rep pathway system and a coach in a feeder side to QLD NRL team and I was VERY surprised by his response to my comments on Mitch Kenny being a plodder.

He is far from a Panthers fan and what he broke down for me with examples of how important he is and the role he plays I zipped my mouth. I am an ok eye test punter (we all tell ourselves that, right?) but I don’t pretend to be an expert despite the fact I watch every single minute of every single game most weekends.

I won’t try and repeat what he said, but he told me Mitch Kenny and his body, defence, gameplay are just superbly picked for that football program and he actually believed he deserves more credit on how good he is.

Look, he knows much more than me but Kenny is far from the comparison of Jeff Robson etc winning a comp some may make him out to be with arguments about antidotal plays or stats .

True Mitch kenny is underrated for sure. Remember the time cleary kicked that crazy field goal last season? The pass from mitch kenny gets forgotten about. It was a 20m bullet. Sure it landed slightly short but not an easy pass

I never said Boods was a first grader. At this stage he's a promising youngster with a lot of skill. He needs to improve his physicality to become a first grader, but he is already a very good reserve grader. I don't know why you can't admit it. It makes you look very childish.

Doesn't that just mean he played in good teams (or against shit ones)? That's if a sample of four means anything at all. The three teams he played against last year all lost more games than they won.

The 'next level' is regular first grade. Ryley Smith didn't manage it until he was 22, and Matt Arthur's isn't even 21 yet.
