Ryles should have sold his vision of the club to Lomax. It isn't a good look for Ryles that Lomax wanted nothing to do with the Eels after a season of being here. That said I acknowledge Lomax is as mad as a cut snake so I can forgive Ryles that one.
In hindsight we shouldn’t have let him go until we had someone to replace him.

Is there another coach in the NRL that could get this squad into the Finals, or make them competitive?

We made Koloamatagi an offer, and he signed elsewhere, indicating that Ryles sees the gaps in our roster that are glaring - I don't think the "this is his team" narrative holds much weight, when the recruitment team are useless.

He's under pressure, for sure, but the administrating teams should surely lose their jobs first...
Ryles is a part of the recruitment team. If he can’t sell a vision and players don’t want to play for him then that’s on him too.

Well, of course.

But he would not be assigned to working out the finer details of contracts, and deals.

Honestly, I don't really know whether our failure to recruit is because Ryles cannot appeal to elite players, our recruitment team cannot negotiate properly, or a mixture of both.

And I certainly don't think Ryles is immune to criticism - his decision to start Walker the last two games was baffling, to say the least.

But I think he's shown that he has a plan, and I think, at the very least, he has shown that he can coach.

I think our more pressing needs are giving him a roster of players capable of being more than Ron Massey Cup-level.

Having said that, patience is certainly wearing thin.

I don’t think he’s shown he can coach any more than Steven Kearney.

I don't think we ever looked halfway competent under Kearney, at all.

I reckon we've shown glimpses of potential under Ryles.

Hopgood moving to front row and Walker starting at 13 was one of the catalysts for our good form at the end of last season.

The baffling decision was to change what had worked so well for us in 25

That is a job for RL nerds. I'd get Pou in for that job.

I'd say it is both. I'll have a coffee with Ryles and explain to him how he can improve things. The college football coaches are amazing at this aspect of their job. They either recruit directly or have the best recruiters as position coaches.

We should name Walker as the starter and give him the 13 but start him from the bench.

Regarding Ryles, when we finish bottom four, is he under pressure, or he continues on his merry way, no using the exit of Lomax and brown who we knew he was leaving for a while as an excuse an that goes for injuries….Penrith have reinvented themselves constantly and have probably lost almost 3 gun teams over the years and they are odds on to win it again, so I ask what’s our excuse as most will have plenty hence the continual low grade seasons, recruitment etc …this is Ryles team know…. I think he needs to go at the end of the season along with his coaching staff and the usual suspects

And personally think it’s embarrassing when he constantly hits the glass when where beating teams in more strife than us, save the tapping for when it counts, because in my opinion we will be close to the spoon, that’s what happens when recruitment is is non existent and when we do its unwanted from other clubs, which we have many of already. Ionghi, papalli, kk, Samrani, Reilly , Doorey to mention just a few and then we continue Debelin, Kelly etc do they think we’ll be winning anything, the kicker is though the fans will turn up how rubbish we are, as long as they continue to show up
Were definitely not a bottom 4 team when healthy but our current ceiling imo is no higher than 6. I dont see why hell be under pressure this season either. People are so impatient if they think firing ryles is the right choice already. I personally think thats a stupid fkn suggestion but just me and as if starting again with another coach would make us any better. Theres a long term vision with our pathways as well. Hes put in place some systems where we look better but its also up to the players to execute. Rome wasnt built in a few days. Next season if we dont make the top 8 will see him under some pressure though.
