Rumours and Stuff

I think the idea of something like an Injured Reserve that the NFL does has merit - imaging losing a key player for the season due to injury? It would suck.

Not that our injured guys are key players.

Having a system in place to allow a club to replace this player on their roster would be neat.
Then why have a top 30 roster?

you can sub if the player is ruled out for the season.

I just want get something straight….Ryles went all out to sign the messiah of grubs in NAS but he’s offended or has standards when it comes to Xerri who can’t get a lookin at the dogs, and no doubt is desperate to get out, but signing him goes against Jason’s standards?

im going to say it Ryles isn’t first grade standard but will always be a great assistant, I wish we kept Barrett, because when baldy was punted we played some decent football, Ryles I have no doubt has the best intentions….just not the smartest
I’d say it has more to do with the lack of team before player attitude, rather than merkinism

Well, I meant NFL squads have 55-man players, generally.

If a player gets on Injured Reserve, the player can't play again that season, but their salary is "exempt" from that season, to allow a franchise to make moves to replace them on their team.

If Mitchel Moses went down injured in play one of a new season, and was out for the season, it would be good to have a way to find a way to work around that.

We wouldn't necessarily look to a back up - we could look to England, or implement a temporary transfer, for instance.

I'm not an expert.
if the player is injured and out for the season you can get cap and roster accomodation

An aggressive recruitment team would now be looking at Galvin’s manager ( Isaac Moses) and suggesting it would be good for the player to move to another club to actually play his best position, 5/8. Not tempting fate, doubt that’s in the thought process of our gurus.

Get used to this team of players, because we will re sign them till the ink runs out, because nobody else wants them and we can’t sign anyone, the one player we should have signed in Tuivati will be a free agent soon, it appears the club may find his talent not in keeping with our standard

I am ok with the Guymer resigning. If we didn’t overpay that is.

He can get his defence sorted he could be a handy starting 13 or bench player
I will say Guymer extending is good for us. He will only get better and should be in the 13/17. Great work ethic and has good endurance.
We need youth not pensioners.
Fast man's game. Promote youth with good quality. Thats where its at

Good post, I'd take him at 6. He's still better than anything we have.
Hes a 6 and wouldve prospered on the left with us.
Stupid move to go to the dogs and play 7 and on the right where you can see he's not comfortable plus doing lots of kicking.
His game needs to be simple not too complicated and be 2nd fiddle.
Come join ur mate TDS

Then why have a top 30 roster?

Why do NFL teams have 3 QB's on their roster, but place their starter on IR if they're out for the season?

Because a back-up is not the same.

This is easier to implement in the NFL with trades, etc., of course.

And I'm not suggesting that any of the injuries we suffered in 2026 are the catalyst for this.

But I'd hate to see, for example, Newcastle lose Ponga and/or Brown for the season in Round 1 (hypothetically), and then basically kiss their season goodbye.

As I said - I am not an expert; an Injured Reserve wouldn't necessarily work, because having your star player's salary still count on the cap, but their roster spot not count, is probably not as useful in the NRL

But allowing for machinations when a player is out for the season would allow for a more even competition.

If a team is ruled out of being a genuine Premiership nuisance early in the year because they've lost that star player, that kind of sucks.

Doesn’t matter, he would be ideal to play FOOTBALL, is what they are paid to do and we to watch, Ryles needs to think before he makes these bold comments
I think it makes him unideal. It’s a team sport. We’ve already got enough merkins who look like they out to serve number 1 (and that’s not you or I)
