It will mean we will have a very inexperienced 1. Gutho has proved to me he is tough and should be safe. I haven't seen much attack from him yet so I cant comment.

He would be cheap in the sense that he is already contracted, so we would just need to sign a winger (or even cheaper is to use one not currently in our top 17). This lets us spend more on re-signing or replacing Norman.

Poo, then what about not paying overs for Norman?

I agree with going for Norman and even to pay the $800k. As i have said, $800k in 3 years time would be cheap for him if he continues to progress.

Then comes the 1. Not that I would like to hold Gordon to ransom, that is, this is all we have take it or leave it but that's what it boils down to. The alternative is to go IDG (if cheaper) with Kaysa and give Gordon that little bit more.

But then we need to also focus on Prop. Can someone like Teps really step up or is this sufficient

8. Mannah
10. Wicks

15. Peni
16. Alvaro/Gower

Thats probably a middle of the road prop rotation but our backrowers can provide some x-factor to balance that off.

Don't misunderstand me - I'm not saying we shouldn't re-sign Norman, I'm just explaining why we might not, and if we don't, why it doesn't mean our management is f**ked and we should sack the coach.

I'm just trying to forestall the histrionics from our more critical members.

But then we need to also focus on Prop. Can someone like Teps really step up

I'm sure he can step up, as can Alvaro.

This is where Pou's squad succession thread should be used.
Cause looking at value for presumed cost.

1. Gordon - probably break-even
6. Norman - well ahead
8. Paulo - ridiculously ahead
9. Peats - probably minorly behind due to injuries
14. IDG - probably break-even
15. Wicks - probably break-even, maybe ahead

Hopefully the only ones outside our top 17 on more than at least close to min wage is Gower & Penis, unfortunately both are contracted through next year, but it does mean that every other off contract player needs only be retained/replaced by minimum wagers. Plus it means we probably already have Paulo's replacement (& Wicks in same boat) with those 2 plus the undervalue Alvaro.
So really the only decisions our recruitment team has are:

1. Retaining/replacing Gordon for same or better value for cost, for which we have French on presumed min wage.
2. Retaining/replacing Norman to match cost for value.
3. Retaining/replacing/using cost elsewhere for Peats/IDG for same or better value for cost.

In terms of the competition overall, our riddle is probably one of the easiest in the comp

For me, hooker is the cheaper of Peats or DeGois as Pritchard is already signed and should be our long term 9 if it is not Peats. Just worried Peats would want significantly more.
I haven't seen anything from Pritchard that suggests he could be a first choice NRL hooker for another 2-3 years yet? He may not even end up cutting it. Due to age alone, I'd re-sign Peats and support De Gois in seeking his final contract in Super League.... and King can stay and be our cheap 3rd choice back-up from next year. If Peats doesn't accept his offer etc, tell him it gets offered to De Gois instead.

I would give Norman his $800k but alot of people think he is not worth that and if Norman doesn't accept less than $800K, we need to then look for another combination of 1 and 6.

If we sign Gordon (and Norman doesnt sign on) then it limits who we would want for a 6.
I think Norman will stay for between $650-800K, it won't be a problem. I think Gordon will also be happy to sign on for another year or two, and presto we've kept our good spine that's more than doing the job this year.

You don't consider Coote one of the best allrounders? Kicks, passes, runs, defence not bad, support

tadesco does not kick
The play different roles really, Tedesco plays the sweeping role so you see his support and running game more but he actually does have a decent kicking game. His no Coote or Moylan though but all round he has the running and passing game of Dugan and is very safe as the back but more vision and a genuine ball player. Coote plays more of a LHS half with Morgan as a RHS half and JT through the middle - so his job in attack is more focal as a ball player then a support player so you see his ball playing skills more. Yes Coote is a better play maker but i think he is less of a threat running the ball and his potency with ball in hand is less then Ted.

Hayne is still miles ahead of any of these guys as all round fullbacks though

.

That's why he is the bench hooker and why we need to sign the cheaper of Degois/Peats.

We have already resigned Kaysa for 2 more years and King is not re-signed yet. (I don't think) so I really doubt Pritchard is out of the picture.

On a serious note thou how does a team score 284 points in 7 games? Averaging 40.5 points in attack and 12.5 in defense. The team coming 1st beat team coming 2nd 50-4. The comp must be a joke and i can see why it is being abolished

The panthers have a team that is very good for the NYC. Very much like our 2014 NYC team. They were just so big that they didn't have to focus on the things that will get them playing regular first grade and from that group there aren't too many that are playing regular first grade, the only two that I can think of are Moeroa and Aloiai.

The two from the Panthers that I can see making first grade are Nathan Cleary (just so professional in everything he does) and maybe Tyrone May, very good at ball playing but haven't seen him over a long period so not sure how tough he is.

De Gois will be cheaper, but older/with limited timespan. I think we should re-sign Peats instead, because Kaysa isn't ready yet to step up as first choice hooker and carry the team.

Pritchard is in the future plans no doubt... but imo won't be ready to take more than a bench role until 2018 at the very earliest.

I think it will go down to how much peats wants and how much IDG wants thinking that we need to squeeze some money to top up Norman
