You'd know at Joe Sunday League level there are guys in your team who are just shit merkins, you may not say it aloud but you probably think twice before passing them the ball, so either you figure ways to not utilise them thus potentially making you a worse player, or you figure ways to utilise their not-so-shit merkin abilities in some positive fashion which probably still isn't up to whatever level you're playing. Now at Sunday League level, you can blame the shit merkins for dropping the ball, but you can only blame yourself for passing it to them knowing there was higher chance of them dropping ball. But at a professional level, assuming you're not the shit merkin who forgets his job, blame goes squarely to the shit merkin not doing his job, or if it's continually happening, to the shit merkin coach who doesn't recognise that one of his players is also a shit merkin

The only ones of those who would have been on first grade money were Harrison (who was playing first grade for Manly when we signed him) and Morgan (allegedly wanted by other clubs this year).

Due to cap issues and huge money paid to the likes of Hayne I don't think we had a clear top 17. More likely is we had a clear top ten or so, with the rest of the top 25 on minimum salary. We were also paying blokes like Mortimer and Tahu to play for other clubs.
