Who cares at the point he was out of the game.

Biggest over reaction.

So.....if a player is out of the game it would be ok for him to pass on information to punters / bookmakers?

Of course, that is not what Corey was doing, but that is the problem with not controlling communications during a game.

FORMER Test cricketer Nathan Bracken has quit as a Parramatta club ambassador and threatened to sue the Eels because his sister-in-law was rejected as a team cheerleader.

Bracken, who also sued Cricket Australia for long term damage caused by knee injuries, made a number of unsubstantiated accusations against the club and the cheerleading audition process after Tersha Rich, sister of his wife, Hayley Bracken, was knocked out in the first round of auditions for the new-look cheersquad.

The audition were held in front of several Parramatta officials who say that accusations the process was unfair and biased against Rich were “absolute rubbish”.

Before everyone jumps up and down about the article saying I was considering suing the Parramatta Eels it is a load of lies. It is a disgrace that a "spokesperson" can make up lies to damage a person or the club. What a joke.
Wishing the boys all the best for a great season and lets hope the "spokespeople" leave the talking to the players.

Of course not. But players shouldn't be making phone calls / sending texts during a game without direct supervision / oversight.

So.....if a player is out of the game it would be ok for him to pass on information to punters / bookmakers?

Of course, that is not what Corey was doing, but that is the problem with not controlling communications during a game.

Your first quote is not directly linked to your second. The second doesn't follow just because of the first...

The NRL has no stated rules against the players using the phones, but they are not allowed to pass on information. As the article stated:

The NRL rules book and code of conduct are available on the NRL's website but have no reference to mobile phone use. A section on the site about sports betting says: "No NRL employee, NRL club employee, player, player manager or game official is allowed to participate, or be directly or indirectly involved in any way, in gambling in relation to rugby league or be involved directly or indirectly, in the provision of information not already in the public domain that might assist another person to gamble in relation to rugby league."

Now the only reason this is a story is because the AFL do have laws against using phones during games, and one of their players used his phone during one of the pre-season games in the last week/s.
So to see Norman doing the same raises questions as to whether he is allowed to.

Personally I think the NRL probably should have a similar rule. But at the same time I'm a bit ambivalent towards players giving information about the game - I realize it screws up the gambling trade, but if it helps sport break free from being ruled by the punt it might not be a bad thing...

For the record, I think it's only prudent that we post a pic of the girl in the centre of the controversy.
