Have either of our teams been more desperate for a win? If we lose (and I don't think we will) I'm calling it early. Our season will be over.
Apart from last Thursday, Eels have been okay without being great. Last Thursday was their first "bad" performance of the season. They still look to me to be very much in the hunt.

Was listening to talking sport yesterday afternoon with many callers discussing Latrell Mitchell and his involvement in games compared to other fullbacks. All callers and emailers agreed that he should be playing in the centres, he is not as good as, Teddy, Turbo, Gutho, Dylan Edwards, Reece Walsh and others based on his involvement in the game, run metres, etc etc.

Listening, I'm thinking of Adam Doueihi and comparing him to Daine Laurie and the only 1 of the 2 who can play fullback is Laurie. He is faster, smarter, does put his body on the line, does try and can be seen around the ruck and ready to support any break (I wish) and player does make.

What next Sheens?

Re post above, just saw this.

Legendary fullback Billy Slater has called for the Wests Tigers to give the No.1 jumper back to Daine Laurie as the club desperately hunts a maiden win for the season.
"You've got to find your make-up of your key positions and settle with them, and actually teach them and coach them, and work out what their strengths are and how to get them in the game," Slater told Wide World of Sports'

"I don't think Adam Doueihi's best position is at fullback. I was surprised when he was thrown in there... at the back end of the Dogs game. I think it was a reactionary change for the following week.

"We're not in the Tigers walls, so we don't know exactly what's going on, but I feel Daine Laurie is their best option at fullback.

"When you've got your best option at fullback you put him there and you help educate him to bring him into the game, put a game plan around trying to utilise the strengths they have."

What would Slater know about playing at fullback compared to the old prop coaching the Tigers?

Before the Newcastle game, Joey Johns said that Hastings is an out and out 7, what would Johns know about playing at 7 compared to the old prop coaching the Tigers?

Thanks for posting this - I didn't see or hear it so thanks for posting...
Slater is 100% correct!!! Does Laurie have some issues and deficiencies - Yes, but surely with perseverance he can be improved; But he is a much better option at FB compared with Douehi. I love the bit where Slater states "You've got to find your make-up of your key positions and settle with them, and actually teach them and coach them". Wow - I mean WOW!! Who'd of thought? Can we have a bit more of that or at least some of that. I don't see it from us at all and in some cases I don't see many coaches coach and improve individuals.
Johns is spot on about Hastings as well, however, that ship has sailed so we move on.
And a final point on the make up of the team.... With relatively solid options at edge backrow (Papalii, Blore, Kepaoa) I really feel we can better use Bateman at 13 in the middle playing a bit of footy with ball in hand and trailing and backing up Api and also playing off 2nd phase play. This is now a crucial role and the best teams have a player who can do that such as Yeo at Penrith, Murray at Souths, Radley at Easts, even Carrigan at the Broncos. And given that we don't have a 6 & 7 capable of consistently getting the job done this type of link player #13 would be hugely beneficial and I think he's got what it takes to do it.

I can totally understand if Laurie was pissed off and liked the Bronco's scoring a try after Sheens dropping him and saying at some press conference the Douehi is our best option at full back.

This is early days for so many more disturbing and accurate articles to come about the Tigers players, coaching staff and management.

Same reason we lost players like Josh Addo-Carr and Marika Koroibete - the club didn't develop them as players, then they went elsewhere and excelled.
They had a very good coach when they played U 20's at the Tigers, he was a mentor.
The coach moved on.
If that coach came back tomorrow, many would be carrying on about the old boys club bla bla bla. Todd Payten would run rings around the 'old prop' and I'd say he wouldn't have considered Benji and Farah as assistants.

They all bring there own people, just that Sheens had been away so long, he didn’t know anyone.
