only saw the send off and it was an atrocious decision. he should be gorrrne for a few weeks for such a blunder. how he missed Lima TWICE provoking ryles is beyond comprehension.

as for not really knowing of any younger refs to step, this is cos Finch doenst seem to promote anyone or give them a go. younger refs are only going to get better with experiecne and if they get a go just like young players.

Perhaps if Ryles didn't kick him a second time he would have been OK

Looks like there was a far bit of kicking going on last night, with Lima's legs and the Dragons' arses...

Still stupid by ryles to get involved so soon after a brawl but harsh on him the get sent.

Can we safely assume that the edict to punish the 3rd man in who throws punches with a Brett Finch/Matt Utai type suspension is well and truly forgotten?

Slater's come in throwing punches while his teammates are trying to break up the initial bout and the touchies report is clear as day saying Slater escalated the fighting by coming in throwing them.

The Match Review Panel's reasoning for Utai getting 2 weeks off back in 2006 was for the following:

"About 58 minutes into the match, player Utai became involved in an altercation between two other players and threw a punch," the review panel noted.
"This action was contrary to the true spirit of the game."

Or because it is Billy Slater will he get off because 'it's not in his game?'

Billy will get off becuase butter wouldnt melt in his mouth.

Surely the fact Soward had a go at him for supposedly rooting Jana Pittman a few years ago is cause enough to try to put a couple on his bum-fluff covered chin.

How on Earth did Soward get binned? He didnt even throw a punch

Ryles can consider himself very unlucky for being sent but it is even more of a disgrace that Lima wasnt sent with him.

Badger hit the panic button pure and simple. A ref with no control or respect is useless to the game and he needs to go. Career over

Boy I missed a cracker last night...I guess I'll look for some footage on News.com before I cast my opinion.
Still that is a soft send off, especially considering they were one man down for the rest of the game - I think the ref should have taken the whole incident into consideration not just Ryles who by the sounds of things was retaliating.

I'll comment more once I've seen the issue at hand.

[Edit] Yep that send off was an absolute joke, both were identical and right in front of the ref geez even in the front row crowd you could have seen that!
Ignores the Storm players attempt and once Ryles does it pounces on him like a cat...should be reffing back in reserve grade, poor form.
Soward also deserved not to be send off the poor bloke was just getting up.

Secondly for all these people whinging about Slater - Come off it him and Soward got heated, when you're fired up do you stop and go 'Hang on...think logically here, this bloke that pulled me on is being held back I better not punch!' No,of course not.
Sh*t send off but please some perspective is ideal!

It was a joke. Ref was a joke. Ryles brain snap a joke. Slater coming in throwing punches was a joke. Storm grubby tackle crap a joke. If Gallen was out there he would have been one of the cleanest storm player on the feild....IT's A JOKE I TELL YOU.

Ryles and Lima should have been Binned at WORST!

haha yer neither was stomping on John Skandalis's head and then running off like a little girl at Leichhardt Oval in 2006, biggest cat in the game

exactly what i was going to say. absolute coward. stomped on skandos face when he was on lying on the ground. then when skando jumped up and went to punch him and ran away and stood behind brett white like a 6 year old girl running behind her mother. f*cking cat

If he gets suspended the NRL really is screwed. That incident was about the only interesting thing that happened all weekend in a competition that is becoming so boring and monotonous I can hardly watch a full game. I am certain that he will be suspended however but that will only prove how out of touch the NRL is. The fact that jealous, vindictive fans want every player in the game suspended for long periods after every minor incident, usually only because it is not one of their players or occured against their side, also only proves how narrow-minded and selfish fans are. If NRL players aren't robotic enough we want to now take what little agression and spirit they have out of the game as well. If anyone in that game should be suspended it should that tratorious union prostitute Gasnier. He is the only player on that field that is bringing RL into disrepute, and not for the first time.

It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go. It's not his go..

I thank you,ECT for posting a decent opinion.
You're exactly right, the bloke threw some punches and was a bit aggressive but that's it and it's not like it hasn't happened before.
In saying that I think he should be cited because he needs to remember he's a professional footballer and handle his anger in a respectable manner...but people should stop making out like he tore somebody's head off!

I'd like to know if we are going to see forwards attempt to strike for a ball in a scrum anymore if Finch and Harrigan do the inevitable and back up Badger.

I thought they took striking for the ball out of the game. Isn't it a scrum to feed the ball into the second row now? Don't push them storm boys, not in the spirit of the game. FFS Scrums now a waste of time, whats going on with this game. Give it to Saints they showed balls last night and gave it to the storm. Wrong end of score but proud of them. Thats a big statement from the brothers in the Shire.

Oh double standards if your name is Slater? What BS. He ran in to throw punches. If it was one of the so called grubs you would want their heads on a platter. Slater deserves to be cited and suspended like any other player would.
