I might be alone here, but I don’t think our defence is actually as good as is being made out. Yes our structure in D is good and we’re not conceding a bunch of points, but our sliding out and in defensive system has definitely come at the expense of defensive intensity and coming up and putting any real pressure on the ball carriers. When was the last time we forced the opposition into making an error? We’re also dropping off a lot of tackles through the middle. The ability for the edges to slide to save us is definitely good and AOB/McDermott should be commended for that part, but I wouldn’t say our defence is good enough to sway either keeping AOB or promoting McDermott.

we play bend but don’t break, so we end up giving up big metres and defending our line a lot. We are then trying to come off our own line with the ball, get crunched, make mistakes, and then have to defend our line again.

Yep 100%. The result is that the score lines against us don’t look too bad but we never look like winning either.

I think when people talk defence they're more talking about reading and shutting down attacking plays. We're reasonably good at that.

We let the opposition march up the field way too easily in the first place, though.
This. Our defensive systems read the game well and good decisions are regularly made.

It's what you aim for when your middle is under sized and under strength. Right now we don't have the physical presence in the forwards to bash teams, were just holding a net out. It's why playing both Brailey and Crossland on the field at the same time is so stupid as it magnifies the problem.

Crossland used at 13 when both on so that other bench can cover 8 & 10 due to our injuries but also because Tyrone isn’t having enough input almost leaving us a man down.
Need JSaf, Elliott and Hetherington back

Is that what Braith and the News boys told you?

Termination of contracts almost never end up in a full payout. And if that was the case, we could just redeploy him to another part of the club - say junior development.
Yes, all my opinions are formed as a result of a television show I haven’t watch in 10 years. FFS.

Your idea of AOB happily walking away from the rest of his deal with a lot of money left on the table, and with little chance of ever getting a top gig again, is fanciful.

Then consider the master negotiators on the other side of the table, who give away multiple year extensions to guys who can manage a low 40’s success rate, with the added stipulation of an extra season sweetener if we were somehow capable being the 12th best team in the competition.

What the hell has O’Brien, and more importantly Moses, got to gain from not forcing Wests hand?

The rest of his career? No club touching him after he screws the club over?

It’s just not how corporate exits work. If the Knights really wanted to, they could find some way to have some sort of breach of contract to cut it short.

Manufacture a reason to get rid of him? And then which half decent coach would want to come here after we screwed the last coach out of his contract? And there’s the reaction of the playing group who seem to love the guy- look what happened mid 2023 when he was last under so much pressure as a coach.

I reckon I must have said it ten years ago, but we need to follow in the culture of the NFL. As a franchise, they work out what sort of team they want to be, then they find a coach who fits that style. If it doesn’t work, they sack the coach and bring in someone else who suits them.

No need to completely overhaul the playing roster every time there’s a new coach. Players aren’t learning new attacking/defensive structures. The club has an identity and remains true to it.
